Hi all, I have at least 7 different personalities. They are a bird who speaks in a different language and believes it can fly, an alien who speaks Martian, a 5 year old child who is extremely intelligent, I also turn into someone who can't form a complete sentence and doesn't make any sense, a 50 year old military man, an 87 year old woman, and finally a robot. My memory is very bad and at times i don't remember where I'm at or how I got somewhere. I feel my movements being controlled by an outside force when I'm these different personalities. Someone like the government also put thoughts into my head in the personalities, especially the bird one who thinks it can fly! That is not my thought. It scares me. All I remember is I have no control over the personalities. I sometimes hear conversations in my head and I think that it is the personalities talking to each other. Since I am on an anti psychotic medicine, that doesn't happen that often. The reason why someone is controlling the personalities is because I killed 350,000 people through my psychic dreams. They know about it so they control me for entertainment. In the last few weeks the more personalities are coming out. I must have done something recently to cause this. So, does this sound like DID? I also want to know if you have DID what is the best therapy and how do you deal with it?

Hi Firebird, welcome to Psych Central. I have DID but I do not experience the kinds of things you are talking about but everyone is different. I think the only way one can be diagnosed really is to go to a professional. They are trained to figure things out. I'm sorry you are scared. I hope you can get some help in figuring things out. Please take care.

Hi FireBird!

Wantto is right, only a Dr. can help you with that. Is this DID?

To me, and this is just my opinion, it sounds like it could be more like schizophrenia.

Again, that is just the first thing I thought of when I read your post.

Welcome to PC by the way!

Welcome to PC. I agree that only a professional can diagnose accurately. As these symptoms seem to be problematic to you maybe you can find one to talk to. Good luck.

wanttoheal, you say you have DID. What is the experience like and what symptoms do you have with it? Also, what kind of therapy do you go to (EMDR, CBT, DBT, etc)? Does it help? How long have you been in therapy? How many personalities do you have?

Did a pdoc prescribe your antipsychotic medication? What was his/her diagnosis? You should talk to your doc about what you're experiencing.

Take care.

Hi Firebird,
I'm not sure which type of therapy is being used, but I think it's a mix. My T is experienced in treating DID and she cares. The combination means that she and I work as a team to find solutions to make things work. Sometimes they are traditional ways, sometimes not. If it doesn't work, we try something else. I've been in therapy for a total of about 5 1/2-6 years? I think? (I have problems with knowing how time passes.)

I don't know how many "personalities" I have. I'm not actually so concerned with that to be honest. It's all me; I just have amnesiac barriers separating different parts. We are working to break down those barriers so that I can be more aware throughout my days. It's a process.

Good luck to you as you work on figuring things out. I hope you will keep us posted. We care. Do you have a therapist?

Yes Juliana, my pdoc did prescribe me an anti-psychotic medication because he thinks that I have schizoaffective disorder. The thing is I don't believe that diagnosis because I don't think that I am psychotic at all. My current therapist says because of the new personalities that came up in the last few weeks, the diagnosis might be DID. I am going to my pdoc next Monday to talk to him about the multiple personalities and to change the diagnosis to DID instead of schizoaffective disorder. I want to get off the pills! There is no medicine for DID that I know of. That would be cool if I don't need an anti psychotic medicine anymore. I will agree to stay on the anti-depressant med though. I will talk to the pdoc about adding an anti anxiety med because I have severe anxiety. Besides the schizoaffective diagnosis and the possible DID, I have severe depression, conversion disorder (not as bad anymore), autism, and dependent personality disorder. Some doctors think I am also borderline but I don't fit in the criteria for that disorder. The reasons why I don't have schizophrenia or schizoaffective is that I don't have delusions, my hallucinations don't happen that often, my speech problems is better explained by DID rather than schizophrenia so no disorganized speech, no disorganized behavior and finally no negative symptoms. You must have 2 of 5 of those symptoms to have schizophrenia. I have not even a half a symptom.

Firebird,

We cannot diagnose here.

Having multiples is no joke. If you were DID the personalities would have formed along time ago due to seriously traumatic life events.

Wanting to be DID so you don't have to take meds? Many people need to take meds from time to time due to the amount of distress.

Sounds like you may have several diagnosis actually, trust the professionals and let them do their job.

If you do have DID you are going to need long-term therapy.

Take care.

pegasus, I don't want DID. I had trauma in my life and it was horrible. I am not faking it if that is what you are implying. I just said it would be nice to get off the pills. That does NOT mean I am faking or want DID or any other disorder for that matter. I have 7 different personalities. They come up at inappropriate times. It is embarrassing. I am also NOT joking about this.

I too have DID and those things you posted don't happen to me but what you posted sounds exactly like one of my aunts. She was labled as having Schizophrenia with delusions of grandeur, delusions in general and hallucinations. Im not a counselor so I can't tell you what you are but since my aunt got her lable from a psychiatrist I know they could also tell you what is your lable.
