IDK where to begin, I moved recently not really so much by choice but for safety concerns. I've spent nearly 4 months now without therapy, support, treatment team of any kind. Have searched countless hours to find new help and have found nothing but doors slammed in my face and have been referred around in circles.
At this point I'm loosing all hope, loosing massive amounts of times, blacking out, cannot leave house. All symptoms are heightened to the point of hardly barely able to function. I want time to stop. All self's feel like cowards for leaving the only therapist that ever believed there was hope for us? But cuz of safety concerns from outside person didn't have much of a choice. Though now more lost sad scared & alone than ever before in life. Having bad thoughts this suffering will never end. The other parts just scream and cry to be heard but no one literally none is here to listen.... I hate myself... |

Can you remember any coping skills you learned when you were in therapy? I have found when I was in that state of mind, allowing my brain to do what it needed to do helped me a lot. Perhaps get some relaxing things to do that other parts of your brain might enjoy, such as coloring, mazes, stuffed animals, toys, etc. when I give myself allotted time to let my brain do that, it calms me down and I lose less time and things are calmer in my head.
Hang in there. There is good support on these boards.

poet501 look in your phone book there should be numbers to your local domestic violence agency. domestic violence agencies are through out the whole USA in major cities and small cities surrounding little towns. they turn no one away as long as you are over 18, if you are under 18 they will put you in touch with child protective services which also do not turn anyone who needs their help away. both organizations have refural processes that can get you into treatment with treatment providers that do not turn clients away. they have a special list off resources for those in unsafe situations and have had to leave their homes. both agencies also will send someone to you if you can not get to them, even if that means contacting the police for escort into unsafe situations to remove a victim from the unsafe situation. here is the national domestic violence number, they can give you information over the phone, text, emails and can send someone to you if you can not get somewhere safe to meet with someone. ...
short version it is illegal for these two agencies (domestic Violence and child protective services) to turn anyone in need of services away. 1 800 799-7233 there is also a program called when georgia smiles by Dr phils wife heres the link. this program can also get you the help you may need to continue to stay out of unsafe situations and they do not turn anyone away.... https://www.whengeorgiasmiled.org/ |

Poet501 I did not recognize your user name so went back to read your past posts. in one of your posts it states you have been referred to sheppard pratt and timberlawn programs, my suggestion is contact them they will be able to help you and do not turn people in need of their help away. it really is worth it to go through those programs. I have been through them and they helped me so much.

Originally when left, previous therapist did go to great lengths to secure new qualified therapist upon the emergency move though after the wait & much work done from my old therapist the new one backed out before ever seeing me, now I'm trapped in an insurance lapsed battle. Thx for suggestion.

my suggestion is if treatmen tproviders are turning you away because of being homeless to contact the state ethics board that over sees treatment providers in your location, this can be found by typing in the search bar clinical social workers ethics board and your location.. many states compile this information in their state website (same website for welfare, social services...) with the new laws in place, it may be a headache to figure out how to get into specialized programs like sheppard pratt and timberlawn but its relatively easy if you know how to navigate the new system and laws. Tip. if you dont have a treatment team its relatively easy to get one...you go to your hospital ER. tell them you are having mental problems and want to talk to their on call psychiatrist. then the psychiatrist talks with you and admit you to the mental health unit (this can happen two ways...your choice (voluntary) or the psychiatrist choice (involuntary). on the mental health unit you will be assigned a treatment team (psychiatrist, therapists and any other treatment providers that apply to your situation. ) you stay with them for stabilizing (anywhere between 72 hours and two weeks) and then they help you to get set up with out patient treatment team. the outpatient treatment team refers you on to sheppard pratt or timberlawn which ever you choose. usually takes about 2 weeks for the whole process. at shepard pratt and timberlawn they work into your treatment plan helping you to transition to out patent services and if needed part of the treatment plan can help you establish where you are going to live after discharge. Sheppard pratt even has residential facilities you can temporarily transition to after you leave the main building. |

example if someone is having problems with dissociation their inpatient process is a treatment provider assessing what dissociative symptoms they are having and then making a treatment plan (therapy, meds....) its like if you go to the ER because you have a broken bone the intake is about how you broke your bone not on whether you have someone at home to take care of you.... here in the USA the process of being admitted to a hospital, mental health facility, therapy....is about what the mental problems are. another example I was having a dissociative problem which required being admitted. my wife took me to the Emergency room. the psychiatrist came in and asked me what my problem was, was I feeling numb, was I feeling spaced out, was I feeling disconnected, was I feeling like everything was moving too fast or too slow (deperwsonalization /derealization /DID/ OSDD/USDD symptoms). After they wrote down the information of what my mental problems were they admitted me to the mental health unit. while on the unit we worked on things associated with treating my dissociative symptoms. then when I was stable again and I was released. it is always after treatment and during the preparing for discharge that discussions were about whether or not I was going to be discharged to go home, stay longer, referred to longer treatment facilities. the getting admitted and treatment was based on what my mental problems are not based on whether I had after care or not. now you see why Im confused. here in america being admitted to a hospital or treatment agency or treatment facility does not depend on ones after care. if it did american hospitals and other treatment facilities would be quite empty due to there are a lot of homeless people and single people who have no family or friends to care for them in them already. I made some calls and no treatment providers that I know around the USA know of any such rule stating in order for someone to be admitted they have to have after care, so if someone has told you that, if it was me I would be reporting them for breach of ethics, emotional abuse of a mentally challenged person and other crimes against this. my suggestion type in a search bar your location and the words clinical social workers ethics board. They may be able to tell you how to get past what ever rule this is that is saying you have to have after care before geing treated, because I have never heard of such a thing. usually people get treated first then after care comes next. |

I'm not in your country or have your diagnosis but I can surely relate to falling through the cracks. I have been promised help many times and several times it was stated by law I should get the help but it never happened. I know first hand a rule does not guarantee that rule being followed, far from. I know some people are quite naive about this and think what is on paper in a rule book is real and what we describe is not. It's for me at least a very hurtful attitude! And it IS easy to fall through the cracks.
I don't have much advice really since I'm overseas but stay strong, and I wish something positive will happen for your really soon. |
