I HAVE DID AND I'M GOING TO MY FIRST GYN APPOINTMENT SINCE MY DX 4 YEARS AGO. MY DOC KNOW'S I HAVE DID BUT DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND SHE NEVER SEEM'S TO HAVE THE TIME FOR ME TO EXPLAIN.
PROBLEM IS, IS THAT I'M AFFRAID I'LL SWITCH AND IN TURN GET SENT TO A MENTAL HOSPITAL. I HAVEN'T BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL FOR JUST OVER A YEAR AND REALLY DON'T CARE TO GO BACK TO ONE. SO I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO, HAVE THE EXAM OR NOT, CAN ANYONE HELP OUT HERE,
ANN MARIE

Can you have your T or P-doc call your Dr. and talk with her about your fears?

They could give your Dr. a head's up on what might happen etc. as far as switching is concerned.

All you would have to do is sign a release form granting them permission to speak to one another and you might have already done that.

You could also tell your Dr., if you're comfortable, that you were abused as a child. (saw your post in another forum)

Dr.'s are well-prepared to handle that disclosure.

Taking a friend with you might help, just knowing they are right there in the waiting room might lessen the anxiety.

I'm sure others will have some advice too.

I too have DID and I would suggest that you take another adult with you that knows some thing about your condition (or) have a one to one talk with your protector and explain to him/her that you need to go to this appointment to make sure that the host body that every one lives in is well and healthy..... maybe the protector will keep them all safe and give them some thing to do while you are in the doctor office and up on the table.

.... What do YOU think of that? - might one of those ideals work.

My doctor knows NOW that I have DID. He told me that he had figured it out a long time ago because he recognized the differences, sometimes I giggle during the exams other times I need his nurses hand to make it through. He said he didn't know if I knew I was DID so he didn't tell me when I was dissociating while with him. I remembered reading this post right before my last appointment with him and so I asked him what he would tell someone that had just been diagnosed and was worried about switching. He said he would say - you've had exams before the diagnosis and everything went ok so after the diagnosis everything will go ok. The only difference is the label not the person. His patient was DID before the diagnosis and DID after the diagnosis and the same things happen before getting diagnosed as what happens after the diagnosis so for him as a doctor he would tell the client ro relax you haven't changed just a label has been added to describe something that has always been there. Hope this has helped.

Your doctor sounds absolutely wonderful! I'm so glad you go to him.

Hugs,

Thank You January. Yes he is a a great doctor. I don't know what I would do if he ever left the medical practice where his office is. Probably move to his new placement. LOL
