I now have a grounding crystal (in an attempt to help me when things get out of control)
someone actually suggested i do this ages ago and i took no notice and thought.. hah, crystals, yeah. they are really going to help- but actually when i hold it in my hand, i do feel the energy inside it and hopefully it will help a bit more

Very cool. Is it a specific kind that is supposed to help keep one grounded? Or just any crystal would work?
I was given one once during a time I was very unstable. It was supposed to promote balance and healing. I carried it with me for a long time. I'm not sure if it really helped, or it was a placebo thing, but I still dig it out when I get more dissociative. Can't remember the name of it though.

Im with this way out. mine didnt work for me so I took mine to the college science department. found out that because I didnt believe it would work, it did not work. (placebo affect)

here in my location crystals do not have any energy, electricity or magnetism waves. they are shiny quarts rocks. a popular quartz rock that many use for flavoring their foods is salt.

there was even a mental health study done by the psychology class where they went and bought some ordinary crystals and some of the ones advertised to have special powers/ energy\ healing properties. they all tested the same. then they did an activity of having a booth on campus where students could hold the crystals and not told which they were holding. some said the ordinary ones were the ones advertised as healing properties and others said they could tell nothing. others said they both worked.

for me when holding a rock of any kind it will ground me if I am focusing on how it feels in my hand (the size, coolness, its colors) grounding is just a fancy word here in my location that means to focus on things ...pay attention to the surroundings, pay attention to that object, that person, that animal, focusing on tangibles rather than letting the emotional side of things pull you into a panic or other negative reactions.

AmandaLouise. Come on. I say this affectionately. Sometimes you really just have to let things be. Some people believe in some things, and some people do not. It doesn't serve anyone to deconstruct their belief in crystals, chakras, ghosts, God, spirits, auras, fairies, Santa Claus or whatever else. Not a single one of these things is provable by science, and if a person says they believe in it there is no possible way to disprove their experience either.

I don't believe that crystals have an innate healing energy. But I have been given crystals by friends who do believe in their healing energy, and that is plenty enough for me to get comfort from them. One of our littles was given a tiny box filled with a crystal world by another system's alter (aptly named Crystal ) and it is one of our most dearest possessions. It is over 20 years later now, but that little box of crystals has given us more comfort and solace than any other thing in this world.

Oohh... I don't have one of those yet. I have the orange one that supposed to be for balancing, and a handful of others. Some I got simply because I thought they were pretty. I have a little bag I keep them in flour easy access.

I'm still not sure they totally work, but they make me feel better.
Sadly, grounding simply by focusing on the physical nature of something doesn't really help me, but hanging on to those stones/crystals does. I'm actually really sad that a worry stone one of my first t's gave me is lost. At the time she gave it to me, she said she thought of me because it had the word "protection" portioned on it. She said she wanted to imagine it helping protect me from others as well as myself... the word wore off of it long before I lost it, but the meaning behind it never did... it slipped between the console of my car, and i'm afraid it's gone for good

I hope you can get more crystals that help you feel better. Is there a place to but then near you? We have a little local shop I like to frequent, but I've also gotten some off etsy...

Im confused. why would i let things go when dealing with my own mental illness and my own situation with crystals. my post is clearly about the fact that ...I ....tried it... and it didnt work for ....me... and upon investigation as to why it did not work for....me... I discovered what and why it did not work for me..

Im not the type of person that sits back and ok it worked or it didnt work for me. that kind of thinking leads my thoughts into things like something is wrong with me if what everyone or what worked for someone I know didnt work the way they said id does. I want to know whether the problem is me or a defective object...

think of it this way what if I had bought a crystal that was supposed to have had an energy source in it. I could have taken it back to the store I bought it in and get it exchanged or my money back. just like I would have if I bought a lamp with a label that says it turns on and off and glows in the dark. if that lamp doesnt turn on and off and glows in the dark Im going to find out if I bought a defective lamp of if I am doing something wrong and if I got a defective lamp take it back...

in the situation with the crystal i wrote in to the company and also notified the better business bureau. that company is now selling the crystals as not containing any energy source now but as a jewelry stone with a disclaimer on the packaging stating there is no energy source with in the rock. (in other words no longer defrauding the public by mis- advertising.

my thoughts on the idea of letting things go... its right up there with people telling people to just get over it about their mental illnesses, physical health and other problems in their lives. in my thoughts its also in the idea that if people just let things go then there probably would not be a psych central or even mental health agencies. people like to know whats what and why things work or dont work and whether crystals work for them and why.

in this situation the crystal didnt work for me and I set out to find out why it didnt work for me.
Thanks for this!

I can see I offended you, AL, and I am very sorry for that. I didn't realize that you took the crystal thing as seriously as you did. Where I am from most people either 'believe' or 'don't believe' in the healing powers of crystals, and I have not known anyone who has actually taken the sellers to task for making the claims that they do before. It would not ever have occurred to me to do such a thing, because in my culture I don't think anyone would do anything like that. I *love* that you actually did what you did! (Because really, why should crystal sellers be exempt from making fraudulent claims?) As I said it would just never occur to me to go and investigate that for myself.
But I truly am sorry. In my culture we tend to either believe or not believe in such things, but don't question another person's belief about it. So that was where I was coming from, and I have learned to be a little more respectful of others today. I can't expect others to think, believe or act the same as me in any given situation.
