no I never drank alcohol to forget my problems. I dissociated. if there was something I could not handle that would automatically trigger me into dissociating and then the alter who's sense of agency was to handle that problem would take control and do what needed to be done. kind of like how in some of your posts you have posted when you need to drive somewhere another alter takes control and does the driving for you. if I was stressed out, worried or any other emotions that would trigger my dissociative symptoms which in turn caused an alter to take control.

Im not saying I didnt have alters that drank alcohol. one did, just wasnt for the purpose of forgetting. it was for entertainment and enjoyment and dating/ socializing with friends.

I just never had to worry about forgetting the bad stuff or anything in general. part of my having had DID was memory problems, even now after being integrated I still have gaps in my memories and if having a hard day that dissociative memory problems that come with my dissociative disorders/ PTSD/ Bipolar ,depression anxiety disorders kicks in and if I didnt live by making lists of things I needed to remember I would never remember anything.

yea I never had to worry about things like forgetting. I was the queen of forgetting in my family, as a result I never got into the drinking to solve or forget my problems deal that many teens and adults around my city end up into.
Thanks for this!

Actually, we started drinking when we found out what a blackout was. We wanted to have an excuse that seemed to be accepted by everyone when we couldn't remember yesterday. It caused more problems for us in the end though. We've been clean and sober now for twenty-four and a half years.

We don't generally drink alcohol but this year our consumption has gone way up. We've gone from drinking maybe two or three days a year to drinking every day.
It serves its purpose.

I worry about you though, AC. I know you are going through some heavy depression and stuff right now.
Are you okay?

We're not ones to say that we're above drinking but we're fortunate enough to say that we can do on most days with being sober. Can also understand that we would understand why some wouldn't want to be sober at all though. Please be careful maybe?

I am a severe alcoholic and have been for ten years. I was always abusive of it having learned to drink from my nerdy teenage friends. I lost total control after 2001 when my normal personality had a total mental breakdown.

I drink to forget suicidal emotions stemming from total isolation in life and my inability to find a mental health professional who is trained in dissociative disorders. I have been trying to get help since 1992. I now have extreme anger issues, frustration issues along with the suicidal emotions.

The last month I have been trying to quit and have two five day sober periods.

As the Big Book of AA says in the Doctor's Opinion that "Men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol."-

And that we have an allergy to alcohol....in our case....times a hundred.

And for real...we love it as to how it numbs the distraught, pain, inner anxiety and stress....

Not all of us feel this way....but a lot of the hurt of the emotional parts bleed through too easily.
