Hi, I'm a 16 year old and I'm not entirely sure what's going on inside my head.

I hear voices, five of them, inside my head. They all have their own names, personalities, preferences, relationships. They talk to each other and me. I can also kind of 'see' them, like looking inside my head, where they all look different and have little rooms off the side of a "main" "control room" where i see them the most. They sometimes DO come and take control of my body, but I'm almost always co-concious (?), and they don't do anything harmful. Tom, in particular, is very responsible and protective, and won't let Derek or Sylvia (who are more unpredictable and abrasive) have control over my body. He also helps me with my schoolwork sometimes, he's really into classic literature. Emmett is also pretty friendly, though he can be cynical and self-critical. We all love him, though.
They're all pretty friendly, especially, again, Tom and Emmett, and Mikey who has only just recently come. Derek can be rude but never really bad, and Sylvia tells me to do things that might be a little wild, but not too dangerous (e.g., "GO CLIMB THAT STACK OF BOXES!!! YES!!! YES YES YES!!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!! LORD OF THE BOXES!!!!"). They've never really told me to do anything violent or bad (except one time when some people were teasing me and Derek wanted me to, and i quote, "****ing deck them". I did not.)

Its like having a bunch of roommates, but the room we share happens to be my mind and body.

For further reference, here's a brief description of all of them:

Tom: a calm and responsible 22 year old man. Gay. He say's he's an English major in college (Which is helpful in my classes, but really confusing because when he controlls me he'll tell people that and they get confused as to how a 16 year old girl is a 22 year old man in college.) He likes tea, classical music and soft alternative, and the color blue.

Emmett: a cool but sad 20 year old. Likes rock, especially more emo stuff (but he gets mad when we call him emo.) He likes jackets, the color green, dogs, and surreal depressing memes.

Derek: A large, rude, government-critical 28 year old man. He's pretty much the standard definition of a punk. Except a little more rude. He likes guns, black and red, metal music. He smokes (which is another reason Tom won't let him control my body most of the time), and can play the drums. He says mean things about people, but never hurts anyone.

Sylvia: She's.... kind of a wild card. We're not sure of her age, somewhere between 15 and 25, but she does whatever she wants whenever she wants, and what she wants often involves climbing, jumping, dancing, or other very active things like that. She likes to mess around, stand on things you're not supposed to, knock things over. She LOVES the color pink. She also loves knives, which we keep away from her. She's not a bad person though, just a little out of control.

Mikey: a very gentle 19 year old guy. He is absolutely terrified of hurting people's feelings. He loves coffee, scarves, and soft music. He is also a were beast, which is complicated. Tom takes care of him when he shifts. Derek likes him, which is surprising since Derek doesn't like most people. He doesn't talk very often. In fact, we don't see him very often at all.

So, that's everyone, and again, they're all friendly, but i hear and see them in my head most of the time and they can take control of my body.

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

welcome to PC.

it's good to see you on here.

while no one here can diagnose you (none of us are professionals), what you say does make sense and does point towards did.

a lot of what you say, for example, relates to insiders in my system

(a system, being what you described as a control room with other rooms leading off it)

do you lose a lot of time?

a lot of the time with did, their is a lot of timeloss- well, naturally because of all the people taking over.

who knows about these voices? (or in did terms, insiders, parts, alters)

I hope you stick around the forums as we're a really friendly bunch who are here to support you.

I also want to point out, like with anything, all systems are diffrent

mine, for example, in sted of a control room is more like an office block/ hotel with the rooms leading away from it.

I have a lot more as well (16 at last count)

I loose time sometimes, like I'll come back and not know how I got to a place or if I did something or not. Once or twice when I've come back my phone screen and password were different. Tom said Emmett did it, and later he confessed, he is totally the type of person to play a little harmless prank on me (and everything was fine, the passcode was his name. idiot). Most of the time, though, I can reach back and talk to them, so someone (again, usually Mr. Responsible Tom) will fill me in.

I haven't actually told anyone about them. I've been gathering up the courage to tell my best friend, because he's really understanding, but I'm afraid he'll think I'm making it up or faking or something. Someday soon, He'll find out. I just hope it goes okay. I just recently moved, so I don't have a therapist anymore, but when i do and after a develop a relationship with them I'll tell them too.

Thanks so much for helping me out, though. I appreciate it.
(After I posted my first thing, Derek saw what I wrote about him and said "Wow, way to **** all over me." Ily buddy but you gotta admit you can be an asshole.)

I see that you are new here... something you may not have noticed yet... at the bottom of every page you will see this.....

"The material on this site is for informational purposes only, and is not a substitute for medical advice,
diagnosis or treatment provided by a qualified health care provider.
Always consult your doctor or mental health professional before trying anything you read here."

that brings me to your question of whether anyone here can help you figure out whats going on.... answer no, only a doctor in your off the computer location can tell you what is going on with in you.

what can be done here is sharing our own stories about ourselves and what we may have in common and not in common with your post....

I see that you said you can see your others inside you and their rooms....

for ......me..... no this was not part of my having DID, my therapist and my psychiatrist called it psychosis/ hallucinations and delusional beliefs in me.

I see in your post your others dont let some of the others take control...

for .....me.... this did not happen. my alters took control any time I dissociated, the alter that took control was the one who's sense of agency (job, purpose, reason for being created) was to handle that triggering event.

I see in your post that you hear voices.....

for ...me.... I did hear voices but most were not because of my DID, I have other mental and physical health problems that caused me to hear voices too. when I did hear voices because of my DID they didnt tell me to do bad
things,. it was about what ever was making me dissociate.

my suggestion is if this continues to bother you tell your parents and they may want you to see your medical doctor who can tell you whats going on inside you.

Though I don’t know you and I’m not a psych expert, I think that having different selves with known, consistent names, ages, and genders who periodically take control of your behavior is a pretty darn solid indication of DID.
I have DID. My strange family of 16 persons that never go home

Back in 1994 when I put myself in the Charter Hospital in Plano, Texas I got to meet severely dissociative (MPD/DID) women. Two of the women had male alters. You could tell when they were in that state because they would walk around like a tough male looking for a fight.

These women had been horribly physically and sexually abused by family members and later abusive husbands. The therapist explained the psychology behind this to me. She said that the women felt like they would not be abused as much if they were a tough, macho male. Obviously that would not work with the people who knew them. It probably only made the abusers abuse them worse.

I do not have that severe of a dissociative disorder. My family was dysfunctional but not total psychopaths. In my case the physical abuse was constant from my brother but not severe. My brother did not start to draw blood until we were teenagers. It was more the psychological and emotional trauma that caused me to have dissociative disorder and borderline personality disorder.

How we were mistreated plays into the fact that we all exhibit our symptoms differently.

It seems like what is going on has been taken care of. There is a great map knowledgeable has some support here. I think that is good start, way to go. I'd be careful of therapy it can make matters worse.
