just wanted to say I've been lurking this board for as long as I've been a member and never really posted because I'm not sure to what extent I dissociate. I don't know a lot of people here on this website but I've mustered up enough courage to make this small post here today after some encouragement.

next week I finally see a psych about dissociation. here's to hoping things will finally start to make sense. I have lots of questions but I'm just wetting my feet into the water a little before I ask.

thank you everyone.

It's nice to see you posting. If you've been lurking, you know how caring everyone here is. I hope it goes well for you at pdoc. If you're comfortable enough, let us know how it goes.

dingaroo,

you were brave to come here and now you know that you are WELCOME HERE!!!

talking to someone about issues is scary but it can get you help. when you feel ready you can ask questions here and people will share what they know.

pull on those who offer help and take them up on it. i really wish i'd known of someplace like this when i was first dx with DID.

See you around here later!

thanks all

all this time since I posted here I put off seeing the psych - lots of icky real world stuff, but I know things for everyone around me will be hard if I'm not well myself, so I'm finally going for the first time this week.

worried and anxious! all the kind replies I got here are encouraging, sorry for not having written back sooner - been very busy.

been here for a few months now and it's funny that this is almost like an introduction scared for this week but this is the beginning on learning more about what troubles me.

dingoroo, it does take time and being ready and it sounds like you are ready now to see someone about help. just doing that first meeting will help you feel like you got over a hurdle. be gentle with yourself, ok? congratulations, you really are welcome here, just as you are!

back from the first session - was a nervous wreck when I was driven there this morning and still very much so I never realized how anxious I would be, I've done therapy before for different reasons.

I have a loved one with DID and we didn't really talk about much this session, it was basically an introduction and she I blanked out, feeling very su'real-ish. oy, probably not a good start to this whole thing.

but, if I may a favor, if anyone knows any good books on the subject that would probably be at a local bookie? I'm sure I only have a minor problem but it would be good to read up on because of my relationship with someone else.

((((((((((((((Dingoroo))))))))))))) I'm glad you were able to go to T. I wouldn't worry so much about the surreal feelings in the session. I think that's normal with the stress of therapy and anxiety makes it worse, in my opinion. It took me years to be present enough in T to even know what went on for the most part. Even now I don't remember a lot, but at least I know I went and I am there for parts of the session. Just keep going, if you can. As you feel more safe there, hopefully you will be able to have less anxiety and be able to talk more.

There is a post at the top of this page called, "Resources for Trauma, Dissociation, and Treatment" that has a list of books that might be helpful. Take care and hope to hear from you again soon.
