I know that bulimia can cause damage to one's teeth because of the acid in vomit. However. I have read about people who have anorexia losing teeth. Why would that happen? Is it from malnutrition?

Malnutrition can be a cause of tooth loss, among other things (such as osteoporosis, brittle nails, hair loss, etc.). However, just because one is anorexic doesn't mean that they don't binge/purge at all. I believe that there are two subsets of anorexia (restricting and purging) just like there are two subsets to bulimia (purging and non-purging).

Yeah, I'm guessing it's either as a result of purging (like whoswho said some anorexics also purge) or malnutrition. I know it's a seperate thing but my hair started falling out when I was anorexic, so I guess it's probably the same thing with teeth, you just don't get what you need to be healthy.

Hi there.
Yes even anorexics have problems with there teeth because of malnutrition and purging. I have anorexia and my teeth are in such a state, they are not falling out *yet* but they are not the prettiest of teeth to look at! You just have to think really, your teeth are made out of bone, and its common for anorexics to get osteoporosis, which I have, and so its quite easy for your teeth to be affected. And then the purging side of things is pretty self explantory.
