Has anyone had any success with medication in regards to their ED? My b/p ing has gotten so out of control for the past few months and nothing seems to help. Thinking an appetite suppressant might help to shrink my stomach back. I know medications aren't the be all and end all. I've been on my fair share for other conditions too. Depression, anxiety, bpd, possible bipolar. It all seems to link in.

Terrified of the fattening meds, but I know they'd probably help my moods. Sick of this cycle, it's just never ending.

I've heard that Prozac is very effective in helping reduce b/p but I don't have any recent experience with it. I know I was put on it 20 years ago when I went IP and it probably helped. The Anti-anxieties have never helped behaviors, for me they fuel that numb restricting state.
Thanks for this!

I take all my meds right before I go to sleep. I take a low viibryd that takes away ED compulsions, intrusive thoughts and depression. It's the first "anti-depressant" that I can take. My anti-anxiety med is "as needed" so I usually don't take it but it takes 30 min to digest so I'm just careful to wait.

I was prescribed Prozac, and did lots of research into it before agreeing to take it.
Basically, it had been shown to have the greatest effect on reducing the B/P'ing.
However, i didnt find that at all.
It made no difference at all to me. but please remember that everyone reacts differently to medications, and it may really help you

Sorry I forgot to mention I've been on Prozac for almost a year now, plus about 10 different other meds in the past for depression/anxiety/various reasons. Prozac hasn't done anything ED wise, or depression wise really. I mainly used it when I was coming off Effexor.

Not sure if we have Viibryd here in Australia yet? I'm very med sensitive too, it sucks

I just want out of this cycle. Restricting isn't as terrible, well they both are but this seems to be hurting me more than anything yet I can't stop.

I use Xanax. I can feel it coming on when I am commuting home or when trying to eat a healthy dinner. I take the Xanax and use distraction techniques until it starts to work. T literally melts feelings right out of my body. I have the lowest dose. 0.25mg. It has saved me. My body is healing and it stops the addiction affect of needing to b/p to release good/bad feelings from the day. I believe bulimia has a anxiety component to it.

I not on any other medication.

I like xanax far too much for that. I have an addictive personality and I know that's one I'd get addicted to. Surprisingly I don't with valium, I'll have it once at night when needed but that's about it.

I don't personally take meds for my ED. My psychiatrist at one time prescribed me Topirimate to deal with the symptoms but the side effects were too severe and I had to come off it within a few days. But I know others who have had success with that medication, or with Topomax (which is in the same family I think, if not the same drug).
I've also heard that in treating addictions and EDs, SSRIs can be effective, though I cannot take those either.
Have you talked to a doctor about any of this? Someone who understands eating disorders and your fear around gaining weight?

Yes, thankfully my new pdoc is understanding and I feel comfortable talking with her. She agreed that I shouldn't be put on a 'fattener' so to speak as it will just increase my b/p ing. I've been on ssri's but they're no good for me either.

I've just started Abilify at a very small dose as I'm med sensitive, then slowly increasing if it goes well but it's meant to be more weight neutral out of the antipsychotics. I have bipolar as well, so I really needed some help with my moods and sleep. The b/p'ing seems to be worse when I'm agitated and restless. In a way it calms me. Which I'm sure people with ED's understand.

Just throwing my 2 cents in.

Years ago I hadn't told my pdoc about my ED but he was treating me for terrible depression. I tried Topomax which didn't help the depression, but seemed to help the ED a bit. Prozac and Cymbalta and all those things did nothing - no harm, no good. Then I tried Zonegran and it really helped control the ED. In me it acted like an appetite suppressant. I didn't lose weight (i've always been "normal" weight) but I had fewer urges to b/p. I stayed on it for quite a while until it lost effectiveness as an A-D. I almost stayed on it just for the anti-ED effects, but doc wanted me to try something else, so I did.

Just recently I was on abilify for 18 months or so. That helped with depression and was weight/ED neutral, which I counted as a bonus since other APs are "fatteners".

It seems like so much of this is trial and error.
Thanks for this!

I'm hoping the Abilify helps me.. I'm at a loss with everything right now Anti d's do nothing pretty much except side effects.

Never heard of Zonegran? It is very much trial and error. I'm just tired of it all. Been at breaking point for quite awhile now.
