Would it to be bad to purge, just now and then if I feel like I eat too much? My portions are really small, I don't binge eat either or have any eating disorder. This is just something I was thinking of doing maybe once or twice a week, to speed up the weight loss process. I had to make myself throw up earlier today for another reason and it just hit me that it might be okay to do. I don't mean everyday and I don't plan on doing it forever. I know it's not exactly healthy, but would it kill me to do it just for a few months?

Blue Bird,
I really don't think that this idea is good, whether or not you currently have an eating disorder. While I can somewhat understand your idea ~ in attempt to speed up weight loss process, a lot of weight loss illnesses begin this way. Talking about this idea of yours in T would be helpful, I believe. Hopefully, you will then understand the illness better. The most effective tool in weight loss is eating healthy meals and increasing physical activity (to burn extra calories). Walk a little more; dance around to favorite fast-paced music; go swimming; take the stairs, instead of elevators; etc. Gentle hugs sent your way. ![]()

Hi Blue_Bird
I can absolutely say that purging is a very bad way to alter and mess up your electrolytes and cause acid to erode the enamel on your teeth if you do this enough. I have known people who have been hospitalized due to the ill effects of doing this. Below is an illustration outlining the harmful effects that this does. 17 Effects of Bulimia on the Body Hope this helps. |

I have physical issues that make me spit up even if I don't want to. The thing is you get used to it. I used to be fearful of vomiting. Now it is nothing to me. I can see a risk here if you do it on purpose, that you could simply get so physically used to it that you don't see it for what it is, which is it is quite disgusting.

Nope nope nope big nope!! Waaaay way way to addictive. Trust me. You think you will start off with something harmless and that your in control of. You will loose it. It WILL take over your life. I didn't even start out purging food. It was alcohol them carried over. Now my ED is the hardest thing for me to gain control off. And I sunk pretty low into other things. Please just don't.
The weight loss process sucks but the ED is just a demon in disguise. |

I'm not sure it's possible to purge 'every now and then'. It's so addictive, you let yourself do it just once and next thing you know, you get the urge every time you eat. Besides, it's not an effective way to lose weight, because your body will still absorb a lot of the calories, and afterwards your body will want more food to make up for the lost nutrients.
