I'm a 41 year old guy, married and have been taking antidepressants for 17 years. Paxil, my MD said, is probably a big factor in why I have gained so much weight.
I need the Paxil, it works great, so quitting it is not an option. But exercise is not a lot of fun, especially since my last round of exercise involved an overzealous Air Force flight lieutenant who wanted the flight to get in better shape. In other words, she could be a bit of a drill sergeant even though we weren't in boot camp. That was 17 years ago. Still hate it. Exergaming is a cool notion, though. But the Wii Fit might not be the best way to lose, and maintain, proper weight. It's a step in the right direction, but not up to snuff. (that's what I've read in reviews.) Anybody have any suggestions? |

Get a vinyl pool and put it in your backyard.
The adds for Walmart show them to be under $200... complete with pump, and maintenance kit. So, a four foot high, 12 or 16 ft. round, would give you lots of exercise room. Get some water noodles and get into it, you can exercise for hours in a pool. Anyway, it seems a good idea, especially if people are on limited incomes and P/T isn't allowed after a cut off point. Summer is here, swimming is fun, walmart sells 15 minute set-up (easy set-up) pools. Now that a good idea! But a floating container (for the chlorine tablets), buy a container of 3 way chlorine tablets, a temp. thingy to float around, some noodles and boogie boards, and a small tester vile. total price - under 300, value to health, priceless!!!! (did i sound like a commercial? lol) that's my 2 cents ... if you get one on their website, be sure to have them make it available at the store closest to you, and go pick up the box ... this way you save the shipping. nightbird (already has a pool.) ![]() ![]()

I suffer from anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder on top of anorexia. The first three I takes meds for and are stable. I am doing great. The anorexia is bad. But, the first med I took for my bipolar caused me to gain 30 lbs. and I freaked out. I begged my psychiatrist to try something else and he listened to me and I have since lost the weight and then some and am now in complete relapse but the point is that there are alot of meds out there. Maybe something else would be just as effective for you without the weight gain. Bottom line though is in order to lose weight you have to exercise and eat right. (funny coming from an anorexic). I found that I love stepping and use a step machine. There are so many different types of exercise, something has to work for you - just for a few times a week? I go through this with my husband. He wants to lose 10 lbs without dieting but wont workout. Hence, he remains the same.
