1) Cultivate Relationships
a. Making new Relationships
i. Write a letter or e-mail to a friend.
ii. Volunteer in a retirement home; “adopt” one of the residents
iii. Baby-sit or play with a pet; kids and animals love unconditionally!
iv. “Role-play” Conversations with a therapist or in the privacy of your room with an empty chair.
v. Take a class
vi. Join a club or organization
vii. Go to the park and people-watch. Imagine your-self making friends. Most people are shy, so why not take the initiative and say “hello” first?

Hey TJ,

keep smiling at more people?

because.. I was having a ruminating day a few days ago . Was walking into Sam's club and had my head down . A woman said.

"Hello"

Blew me away .

I turned to her and tried to shout.

"I love your hair !" she had theses beautiful braids.

I don't think she heard me . She was busy giving some compliment to another woman loading her car and it looked like the woman was saying.

"Thank you."

and then with her head down, she continued to walk down the parking lot.

I'll bet you catch them off guard . And ill bet they think about that smile after they walk by.

I like your attitude Patricia! It makes me remember who I once was! Some days I can handle the none responses, and then other days it seems I need to see someone smile back or say something back in order to feel like I'm "alive" that I'm worthy to be here! It's a difficult thing to deal with when you're trying to cope with depression, but thanks for the story!

I actually had a similiar story yesterday where somene thanked me for some information that I gave them online and that blew me away, made my day!

Have a great day Patricia!

Best Wishes,

TJ

What a nice response Tj,
i posted it to maybe make you feel better about not getting a smile back .

Guess what. I ran into the woman who said Hello to me the other day , Today.

It was at Sams club again in the same exact location . amazing . So I went up to her to thank her for telling me hello and I tried to tell her about her hair .

I say TRIED because there was a bit of difficulty with her understanding me ..

She told me she was DEAF , and her old hearing aid no longer worked she trying to get a new one . at the tune of 6,000 dollars

so she has to read lips ..

Thats why she didn't hear me shout at her or turn around.

She had a fabulous smile .

Oh and I told her . "she made my day "
