Hi everyone,

I am going on my first 14 mile round trip bike ride on my bmx bike on the county road up to the next city north to the pharmacy to pick up some medication.

I am in full blown panic mode as I need to be confident and aware of my surroundings and passing vehicles on the way... I do wear a full face motorcycle helmet but am just worried I won't even enjoy the ride. I'm taking two gatorades with me to hydrate and rest every few miles. I'm in relatively in good shape but take a look at the list of medications and my dx below to see what I'm working against.

Hit me back anybody that bikes or cycles. I'm an 80's/90's old school bmxer so i ride a single speed bmx bike it is the simplest also to fix.

Much Peace all,

~ dmhobbit ~

DX: schizoaffective disorder, panic disorder, ocd, depression, night terrors and sleep paralysis
RX: Neurontin, Xanax, Lisinopril, Metroprolol ER, Sinequan, Zyprexa, Seroquel
Thanks for this!

Hi, you may already have gone out, if so I hope it goes well. Never been on a BMX bike, I have a hybrid, a mt bike, a road bike, a snow/sand "fat" bike, and an e-bike mt bike. I haven't had a single speed since I was a kid! Just take it slow and easy, stop and rest, you've already made plans to keep hydrated.

Did you go out for your ride? How was it?

My husband is big into bicycles. We probably have about 8 or 10 bikes in some form or another. We recently got a tandem, and oh my goodness, why didn't we get one sooner!? They're so much fun! Especially for me since I'm in the back. I just have to peddle and look at all the pretty scenery! I haven't been on my own bike in a really long time though. Getting back into using clip-less pedals, when I wasn't very confident to begin with, is a little daunting...

Very cool. I used to ride a peddle-bike a lot, since I don't drive, but not that I don't go out that far, and I like to walk, I just got rid of it, and stick to walking. I do definitely bike, though! ...but on an exercise bike.

My personal best is around 16 miles at 8/8 (hardest difficulty setting) which, if I remember correctly, took over an hour and my bum was insanely sore afterwards. xD I was fitter, back then, not as muscular, but I was skinnier, if that made a difference. My recent best is 12.4 miles, I believe, also on 8/8.

I tend to ride at 4/8, now, for a better cardio experience. My legs get a good workout with Friday's programme, and with all the walking and my volunteer job, so I don't see the point in overdoing it; I need the strength in my legs for lifting weights and stuff, after all.

I love biking, though. I do miss biking outside 'n that, but I can't be bothered with the maintenance of a bike; they drive me freaking crazy! xD

By the way, I get the thing with struggling outside, ... I miss biking because I actually find it better than walking (if I feel decent about how I look, that is) since I will just zip past people, but there's still anxiety involved, particularly around roads/cars.

Hey,

Right now, all I can say is kudos to you for going on a long ride. I bike ride to and from the shops every so often, but not as far as what you're doing.

I'm sure by now you've already gone on your ride, so I hope it all went well for you. Having gatorade with you is a very good thing; it'll replace lost electrolytes better than water would.

Good on you for going and riding such a distance. Even if you're nervous and totally freaked out, even considering going such a distance is impressive. Just reading the distance makes me wary. Once you get started, though all those nerves probably went away and you just focused on the journey.

Again, kudos to you! You should be proud of yourself.
