I'll try and make this short .....
In April 2010 I was advised to go to ER for a neuro eval. Memory loss and psych issues. Brain is mildly abnormal. I was refused treatment. Last thing I remember until July 2012. Took awhile but I pieced together a few records and discovered that I was medicated heavily after a "psychotic" event in January 2011. In April 2010 all I was taking Rx was klonopin. Between April 2010 -July 2012 I was given every antipsychotic you can name. Haldol, serroquel, zyprexa, lithium, exelon, mirapex, Zoloft, klonopin, Xanax, etc.... I saw a neurologist in June 2012 and she concluded I had been literally drugged out of my mind. There were multiple inpatient treatments etc. Psych and neuro argued over a diagnosis. When I started remembering in Juky 2012 I realized I had gained 100 lbs ...280 lbs weight. I was not happy. Today, I'm slowly losing, finally. My problem is, I'm anxious, older, legally blind (happened while I was in lala land) and weak. I put myself on a low carb diet. But I'm severely lacking in the area of exercise. I've list mega weight earlier in my life and reaped the physical and mental benefits. Now it's a battle I never thought I'd have to fight again. Suggestions ??? My body is depressing. My energy is lacking. Depressed ... if course. Physical eval is normal. Psych pending. Zero psych meds for 18 months .... but I need something ..... klonopin. Rip Van Winkle ..... |

Dickie, sorry you are having challenges with food.
I have to watch what I eat because foods I eat can stabilize my moods or exaggerate them. A high protein low carb diet with snacks or meals every 3-4 hours will over time reduce my swings. I also avoid alcohol and recreational drugs because those can really increase depression. Other lifestyle changes that help me are doing yoga, exercises, mindfulness, calm music, and being active on Psych Central.

Wow . . . I'm also in the market to loose a lot of weight and I quit exercising because I'm surrounded by religious zealots, so I end up spending a lot of time inside on the couch after work.
I'm working on using a food journal now. Have you considered that? I weigh myself every morning and write the weight in my journal, then write down everything I eat all day so that I'll know which foods affect me most. My library has a video called Element AM/PM Yoga. I check that out frequently because it's gentle exercise and stretching that I can do at home. Maybe something like that will work for you as well. |

I have a lot of weight to lose also. I really feel for you because I've lost a couple of years too (maybe more), although not with as much amnesia, just sort of "ruined". I'm so sorry all that happened to you. Exercise unfortunately seems to always have to feature in any weight loss plan. I am challenged in that area too by agoraphobia, COPD, and a bad back. I hope we all will be able to get our weights back under control.
