I am 212 and 46 and I have GOT to lose weight. I have been dieting for 1/2 my life and my last diet I just about blew out my discipline. I did a liquid diet and lost 70 lbs but I got stuck. I ate nothing for a year but finally couldn't keep up and gained it all back.

I have been off the reservation for a year or so but really didn't gain anything. But now I am getting older and I am scared for my health. My back hurts... I have fat friends who ended up getting uterine cancer.

Tomorrow I am going to my doctor to ask for drug assistance. When I was younger I took Phentermine and it worked well for appetite control but I didn't like it because it only lasted about 12 to 16 weeks. But I have decided to just try to lose weight for that amount of time... and then ... stop. And try, to normalize my metabolism so that I can eat rather normally and NOT GAIN, and then, say after 9 months or longer... do 16 more weeks.

I am also going to do the gym at work. For years I haven't done that but now I am going to. I found out that my boss won't object if we are down there for longer than our lunch so I can go work out every day practically.

Good for you! The hard part is starting. I need to lose weight too but keep putting it off.

The daily exercise sounds like a good plan, but remember to take it easy at first, your body will gradually adapt and you can increase intensity duration after a while. If you take it too hard at the start you run the risk of exhaustion/injury, so a good reason to gradually lead into this new regime.

Good luck!

I won't be able to go too hard at first. I had a toe biopsy in November and the scar and toe (taken off) are still healing.

Ugh the doctor was SOOoooo frustrating.

Have you noticed doctors seem willing to throw drugs at you for EVERYTHING but losing weight? I asked my doctor to listen to my breathing because at night just before I fall asleep I have been hearing this crackling / rails.. she didn't hear anything but, get this... she was going to give me a sleeping pill so I could sleep better? Uh.. no. How do you get THAT out of that story?

But then I asked for Phentermine (a 30 year old drug that is proven safe and effective) and she literally made me talk for 30 minutes to justify it. She also tried to get me to take another drug, a newer one, a combination of Phentermine and an anti seizure drug, but I had to insist on just the phentermine because i know that works and I know it isn't dangerous. I don't know about a combination of pills and I also don't know if my insurance will pay for it.

Finally she prescribed the wrong dose. She prescribed Apex (generic) (37.5mg) and I stopped her because I wanted 15 mg Phentermine.. and she went around and around on the idea that she can't control what the pharmacy gives me. Man it was a fight to explain to her that she had given me the wrong dose and that I spoke to the pharmacy about this issue once and they claimed they could NEVER substitute a drug unless the doctor directed them to. So I needed her to direct them in the first place to give me the proper pill and also, that the pill I was looking for was 15 and 30 mg dose. Finally she ordered the right thing.

But I have a 30 day supply. Debating if I should start tomorrow or on the weekend.

Just to update this.. long story but, I took Phentermine, didn't do to well on it... and then ended up on Belviq. Might have had problems with that as well so ...

But I ended up losing 14 lbs in 13 weeks. And now I am going to stop and attempt to maintain.
Thanks for this!
