To start off I am diagnosed with major depression, general anxiety, and mood swings. So I have been on saphris 5mg for 5 days and for the first three days I felt great but I had no reason to feel bad. The fourth day I felt really depressed because of nothing and then today I felt pretty good but i noticed I got a bad grade on a test and it completely made my mood go down? I'm also on pristiq 100mg but the psychiatrist is going to change the pristiq and prescribe me SSRI. Is the medication not working?

Could it be the antidepressant?

You may just need a little more time for it to start working consistently. Of course, if it doesn't get better soon, ask your doctor.

5 days might not be enough time to truly tell if it's working.
I was put on Saphris while in the hospital, and at first I felt even worse. Since I was somewhere safe, they decided to keep me on it to see if it would work eventually and after about a week the depression lifted. It might be beneficial to chart your moods? Like write down a number for how you're feeling every day or twice a day to keep track of a pattern in the highs and lows? There's also a site called Moodscope where you can graph your mood. Also I wouldn't worry too much about feeling bad after getting a bad grade - anyone who cares about their marks would experience a drop in mood after that.

I've been on Saphris for a week and while it seemed to be working last night, i completely broke down. I think everyone is on the right path that it may take longer to work consistently. Give it another week then discuss the concerns with your Pdoc. That's what I'm going to do.
But if you start having thoughts of hurting yourself, definitely contact your doc sooner. Best of luck. |

Hello Valerieanne77,
Just be aware that it can take a month or so for the combination of medications to work. It sounds like you have a good psychiatrist finding the best ones that works for you. ![]()
