Hi folks! I am hoping for some advice on how to handle panic attacks. I am phobic about heights. My SO and I have just bought a motorcycle and will be going for a ride this weekend through the winding and hilly roads of northern AZ and I am really nervous. Tried this once before and cried the whole time, freaked right out. This time, I am trying to be positive, bought an iPod so I can distract myself with music, but I would love some advice on how to cope with this fear. Thanks!

Hi wants2ride, welcome to the forum have you tried breathing exercises? Sometimes they can help calm down a panic attack

Yes, I am trying to use that as a coping mechanism, but just the thought of this ride makes me nervous, sweaty, and anxious. I want so badly to beat this fear, just not sure it is as easy as just saying I want to not be afraid.

For handling panic attacks just train yourself to respond to panic in accepting and calming ways. You can also beat your panic attack by doing a regular exercise or by excepting CBT.

Go up as far as you are comfortable. Then go up a little more and try to relax. Each day try to add a little more height.

I guess I just don't understand why you would willingly place yourself in possible danger knowing it could give you a panic attack?

Strange. I have a fear of looking up and if I am up high, looking down calms me down.
