I've been dealing with bpd, depression, anxiety, and panic attacks for 14years. I feel like I've been on everything, tried dbt and therapy. My psychiatrist keeps touting eating PERFECTLY and taking hundreds of dollars worth of vitamins. She keeps lowering my effexor and zanax. I have two kids that have their own problems due to the abuse of their biological mom. My fiance and I have sole custody, which is great. I have been able to use lots of what I learned to understand, teach, and get them appropriate help, which helps me. However, I feel like I can't talk to my doctor all she says is she can't change my life. True enough. But between the depression with no energy motivation etc, the anxiety and being sooo Irritable, and the panic attacks that last hours I feel like a total failure. Does anyone have any meds a little more uncommon or mixtures that worked for you? Any input appreciated, thanks!

I hate to say it but that sounds like a rubbish psychiatrist if they are just telling you to eat right and take vitamins! You need psychiatric medications and psychotherapy, obviously everyone is different but I wouldn't be recommending vitamins. I wouldn't expect to be on the exact same medications over 14 years either, if you find things are getting worse for you, why is your psychiatrist lowering the doses? I would suggest seeing a different psychiatrist.

My psychiatrist has been telling me that my depression is caused by my home situation and I need to change it or medication will only have a minimal effect, is yours saying something similar? Whatever, you still need support and constructive help. If you can get a second opinion as Pegasus suggested, it might help. Wishing you all the best as you try to find a way through.

I'm sorry that you are going through this and that you can't really talk to your PDoc and feel like they truly have your best interest at heart. It is true she can't change your life but she can be supportive and be open minded to trying meds again instead of vitamins. Yes, we all need to eat healthy for the betterment of overall health but it won't give you the help you need here. A second opinion is definitely in order here so that you can begin to get the support and help that you need. I wish you the very best.

Any doctor that prescribes vitamins as a "cure all" is a quack. Unless you have some proven medical need for certain vitamins or supplements than they should not be used. I take vitamin D and Folate but I have a medically proven deficiency in both of these.
My doctor never even thought to prescribe me vitamins when what I really needed was a dosage increase of two of my meds.

Get another opinion!
