I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what my next step in treatment should be. I was in therapy for about 5 months back home but moved and so I can no longer see her. Things have been, frankly, spiraling quickly and my original plan of waiting to see a new therapist or seeing a psych is sounding less and less appealing. I will be moving again in 2 months, so I do not want to begin seeing someone to just have to start over *again.* However, at the same time, I don't feel able to continue on like this for 2 months without any support.
I really just don't know what to do - try to find a psych to prescribe an antidepressant? I can't see therapy being effective as we wouldn't get much farther than the "history" meetings. I'm really at a loss and all thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Thank you in advance everyone.

Hello kal1995: Hm-m-m-m... this is sort-of a dilemma. Yes, I think your best bet here may be to see if you can get a prescription for an antidepressant. In a case such as this, you could even consider simply seeing a general practice doctor rather than a psychiatrist.

I think, in most cases, it's best to be seen by a pdoc for psych med's. But they can sometimes be tough to get in to see on short notice... especially if you're not already a patient. It might be easier to just see a G.P. since you're going to moving again in a couple of months anyway. Then, once you get moved, you can get established with a new therapist & pdoc, as your needs require.

Good luck with your move!

Thank you for your reply Skeezyks 😊 I tried going to my G.P. previously and she didn't feel comfortable prescribing me anything and sent me off to a therapist. But I definitely think you're right. I'll try to get in with a pdoc - worst case scenario is I just have to wait anyways.
And thank you! I'm gonna need it 😅

Can you do phone therapy with the same person until you settle somewhere and then find a longer term therapist?

She didn't mention anything like that during our last session. I suppose if nothing pans out I can give her a call and ask! Thanks for the idea

Do you have a family doctor? They can help you in the interim.

I do have a primary care doctor, but when I went in last time for help she just referred me elsewhere because she didn't feel comfortable prescribing. Between that and the wait time to get in, she probably won't be much help
