I have a fear of sleeping alone. The main reason is due to me being hearing impaired so anything could happen and I would have no idea about it. The biggest worry is someone breaking into the house without me knowing it and trying to do some harm. I like being home alone but when it comes to sleeping alone, I dread it. If I know that someone will be returning home sometime, I will wait fir them to return, even if it means waiting until midnight. But when I am going to be spending the night alone, I have no other choice.

Since I am a male, most people find this to be a weird fear to have, but it is something I deal with. Same with walking outside in the dark alone. I am always on guard and ready for someone to try to hurt me in some way. Anyone else have a fear of sleeping alone? It used to be worse for me where I had the fear even when others were around, but that has gone away. Although I do still have the TV turned on with the volume silent though. When I am alone, I will have all the lights on, repeatedly make sure the doors are locked, and even lock my own bedroom door as well as keep my dog in the room with me. Anyone else have this issue for various reason? Just wondered.

You are not alone. I put on quiet relaxation videos and appreciate my loud barking dog at night. I try to envision a safe zone and peaceful thoughts, asking the universe to guide me. I feel unsafe everywhere in this world. Trying to find serenity in my home as I rest is something I strive for.
Thanks for this!

I have this fear too. I feel unsafe when I'm sleeping alone or alone at all.
Thanks for this!

Is it possible to have a alarm that detects entry into your home? There exist some modestly priced and many of them flash lights in addition to sound.

Another suggestion is to obtain a body pillow. Curling up to it might comfort you.

And, speaking of comfort, I use drops of lavender on my pillow to calm and soothe me.
Thanks for this!

Yeah listening to relaxing music is a good idea. Yeah I try to find serenity too.

Yeah same. During the day, not so much. I am okay. But at night is when it affects me.

I live with my parents and they don’t have an alarm. Although if I ever got my own house or even apartment, I would definitely get an alarm.

I can relate to this because of my PTSD. I've told few people this but I slept in my moms bed until I was 13. The fear stayed with me into adulthood and I couldn't sleep until I was exhausted if I didn't have someone there. I'm not as bad now, but I have no ides why. You're not the only one.

Yeah I had the same issue. For me, I had constant nightmares as a kid and was rediculed by my family about it. I never felt truely safe and I would go as far as making sure I would not fall asleep. I no longer have problems with nightmares and in the rare chance I do have one, I just turn the TV on and am able to relax so I deal with it way better now. But yeah, being alone though still affects me. Glad it has gotten easier for you.

No. I have gotten used to it as i have been sleeping alone since i was a teenager.
On the other hand, I would fear sleeping alone or being outside alone if I also had a hearing problem. That makes a lot of sense.

Yeah that is the cause of it. During the day, being alone doesn't bug me. At night, being alone bugs me. It is basically just instinctive for me to constantly be on guard when I am alone at night.

I do not have this particular trouble. In fact, I am the polar opposite. I CANNOT sleep with anything or anyone in my bed. I cannot sleep with my many pets, or my husband. I am a sound sleeper until there is a strange sound. Then I am instantly awake.

I can understand the part about not being able to sleep with so,etching or someone in your bed. I can't sleep with someone or something in my bed either. As long as there are people I know in the house, I am fine. When they are not there, that's when I get anxious. Also I usually keep the TV on, although I have the volume muted.

I sleep best alone out in the desert with the Owls and Coyote around me. I feel at one with the desert. I sleep well.

Would that even include a stuffed animal? Those always wound up on the floor as well. The TV is forbidden in my room. I only have the clock radio (alarm) and the phone for electronics.

Yep. I don’t like sleeping with other objects or people actually in the bed with me.

rdgrad15--how about a person in the room with you? Say in a separate bed? I
would not care for that but it is doable.

I wouldn’t like that. I used to share a room and sometimes I do when there is company and I hate not having privacy. I don’t mind sleeping in my room alone, I just don’t like sleeping when no one else is in the house in general. When i was little I used to be afraid of sleeping in a room by myself but now it doesn’t bug me. As long as other people are in the house, I am fine. Although wjen it comes time to get my own apartment, that could change since I wouldn’t have anyone I know around.

I had trouble sleeping alone as a kid but, eventually learned that it could be done without fear that something bad would happen. Sometimes the only way to deal with fear is to face it. I hope you get over this fear or find a way to make yourself feel safer.
Thanks for this!

I guess the reason I don't mind sleeping in the house itself alone is because I have 10 dogs. Some sleep in the front part of the house and some sleep in the back. And........I am well-armed, shall we say.
