This is something I often ask people; sometimes because I'm curious, sometimes because (to me) they don't quite make sense right away (but I'm kinda slow on the uptake ).

To start...mine is (I think) quite obvious. Several of my alters are OBSESSED with the band Atreyu--for a few years, it honestly kept me alive. Whenever I wanted to scream or hurt someone or myself, I'd jam out to Atreyu for a bit and soon be totally calm...I swear if they could make Atreyu's effectiveness into a pill, there would be no more anger (for me at least) .

Fay is my middle name and Lowell is my husband's middle name. Funny thing is in reality we both hate our middle names and don't use them . LOL

I wanted something that sounded strong and feminine, although males can be mavens, too. I sometimes overthink my usernames, LOL!

Mine doesn't really mean anything. I was trying to come up with something happy sounding when it asked for a user name because I am usually so depressed. And I thought of those eyes that kids put on art projects that move around. And that is where it came from.

My mum was a French teacher and we went to France on holiday a few times when I was growing up. I live in the UK so it's just a quick trip on a ferry away (or through the chunnel now on a train). Anyway, when we were in France one time, my mum bought my brother and I a French comic. We barely understood any of it except for a story involving a character called Stark because that particular comic story was mostly pictures with very little text.

It was obvious that Stark and this other guy were enemies who probably wanted to kill each other. Then Stark's enemy fell into quicksand in a desolate place away from civilization so no-one would have been able to save him except his enemy (who thought he wanted to kill him!). As far as I can remember the guy drowning in quicksand shouted Stark! many, many times because he knew no-one else could save him. Stark did eventually try and save him but his thinking about not wanting to save the drowning guy (his enemy) for a crucial amount of time, caused his attempt to rescue him to be unsuccessful.

I also added the 777 because I'd like to think I wouldn't have hesitated, like the Stark in the comic and would have managed to save him from drowning in quicksand. 777 has all sorts of magical or lucky meanings I believe. My use of it is hopefully only helpful magic

Stark777 (wonders if you wished you hadn't asked - I am prone to blathering on a bit too much )

Sabrina is what I would have called my daughter, if I'd had one.

Hi,it's interesting to hear how people come up with usermames..mine is Little star because I feel anything but a star in reality and would like to have a place where I can pretend to be a star...to me it's a symbol of hope, bright light in a dark sky kinda thing...but also to try to feel special, that's why I started little with a capital l...this site is like my Big star if you like, that's how I see it,a source of light in a dark place, well something like that,I'm not too great at explaining things..just read this back and it sounds a bit crazy to me sorry about that....I've never heard of the band Atreyu so I'm off to google them now, take care everyone x

Indie is short for independent, especially in music. I like to think that I'm very different from everyone else, so it just fit.

Good thread! I often wonder the same thing.

I had to pick something quickly, when I first joined Psych Central, and I got "pachyderm" out of the hat. It was probably related to how I was known on one other mental health Web site. Other than that, it has no particular meaning to me.

The word "pachyderm" means thick-skinned, which is not all that appropriate to me emotionally, either.

Rhiannon is the lunar Celtic Goddess of ethereal beauty, fertility rebirth transformation wisdom & magic. She was born with the first moonrise and is the muse of poets and a source of artistic inspiration; she was worshipped outside in the woods amidst the trees at wooden alters and underneath the full moon light.

Rhiannon gave birth to a son Pryderi at Yule time the winter solstice being a powerful reminder that ultimately the product of death is rebirth. Hundreds of years later, in approximately 273 C.E. Christians adopted this time of Yule as Jesus' birth to overshadow and bury the Goddess.

Ultimately, Rhiannon is honoured for manifestation and granting the wishes of those who ask for what they want, though she is known to scorn those who can't or won't ask for what they want. She teaches people to ask without fear.

When I first started therapy and seeing P-docs they said to take baby steps while trying to recover. I'm still taking them , maybe it's time for a long jump.

First definitions:

Byzantine |ˈbizənˌtēn; bəˈzan-; -ˌtīn|
adjective

of or relating to Byzantium, the Byzantine Empire, or the Eastern Orthodox Church.

• of an ornate artistic and architectural style that developed in the Byzantine Empire and spread esp. to Italy and Russia. The art is generally rich and stylized (as in religious icons) and the architecture typified by many-domed, highly decorated churches.

Comes from being called that when traveling through the Mid West of the U.S. in the late 1960's because Significant Other had a pony tail and I wore a colorful dress. It was that or being called Communnists just because of how we dressed. Anyway, most gas station across that section, wouldn't give us service except in Iowa where, for some reason, people were very friendly. Thank you Iowa for being nice to a couple of kids who just wanted to see the country.
Like this thread. It's interesting to see where everybody chose their name from.

The sad thoughts of a tired and depressed mind while contemplating the inspiring phrase "to thine own self be true". I decided this was perhaps not the best course of action when your own self was not true. When your very nature betrayed itself.
