They only lay two eggs at a time...and the second one has been laid so Phoebe will be confined to the nest so they can develop the right way in their shells...

Thanks for the info Jewels. She certainly is sticking to her nest today. I remember watching a video showing a lizard getting at the eggs. It may have even been Phoebe's but I am not certain about that. Lets hope nothing like that happens this go round.

Here is the link with the lizard complete with a Godzilla sound track.

PLEASE DON'T WATCH IF YOU THINK IT WILL UPSET YOU.

Here's another from May 2010 with Phoebe sitting on her nest. Looks like the same nest she is using now. She looks different. Like she is thinner.

Since we missed the laying of eggs here is one of a hummingbird laying an egg here is a video when she layed Jay in January. Very cool.

There are lots of videos on youtube about phoebe if anyone is interested.

I have been so wrapped up in my own stuff I forgot about phoebe. Thanks for the news greylove.

She must have wanted privacy this time. Caught the film maker by surprise. No video.

They hatched before dawn...........I'm amazed they hatched together; they were laid two days apart. And incidentally.......I haven't been checking regularly. Just happened to pop on today on my way to PC. Pass the cigars!!!!!!!

Can I get you anything???? That's a bad cough........I'd stay away from cigars if I were you.
Yes, last time around.......Bea came first, Jay two days later in the order they were laid. The advantage to that is that we could always tell who was who.......Bea was bigger. Fortunately, they fledged the same day. I was relieved because I couldn't stand to see Jay alone in the nest. You should have seen the look on his face when Bea took off!

Yay to the new babies!!! They are the dearest little things!! I didn't start watching Phoebe's video until after Jay and Bea were quite a bit bigger, so it's wonderful for me to be able to see the babies as newborns!

You are funny. You got it. "No more cigars for this puppy," she says with a raspy voice. Just keep your cigars to yourself next time hey.

You are right. It is not going to be easy to tell them apart. Maybe the colouring will be different. Until they start moving around it will be easy enough... so and so on the right and the other on the left.

I thought Bea and Jay did fledge the same day but I agree the look on his face when Bea took off was priceless. You could almost see a tear and feel a bit of the panic realizing he was being left behind.

Perhaps we can find the motivation in that lesson. If she can do it then so can I if I just have a little faith in myself. Imagine his sense of victory when he discovered he had the power within himself to fly and explore the world outside the safety of the nest.

Awesome SS!! I'm just remembering to check in on them daily. I never left Jay and Bea. These two are almost doubling in size overnight (or so it seems ) I can tell alot about how long they have to "fledge" by the length of their beaks. This is so incredible to be able to observe them........nature's little miracles. I like the names ( I liked Jay and Bea alot better) These are pretty but so much more suited to sled dogs or Siberian Huskies in my mind. I know why.........nearly every Husky name, or sled dog, has a K in it. I realized it when I named my Siberian Husky "Kiah." Just a little known detail.........back to the hummers!!!
Thanks for this!

I saw them yesterday and they looked like lil hummers (lying side by side, head to head, so cute). Two days earlier, they looked like fuzzy lil lumps. It amazes me how fast they grow. Someone at Phoebeallen's chatroom put me onto the the PBS Nature episode on hummingbirds. Great episode if you haven't seen it. You can watch online. I never knew there were so many varieties of hummers.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for that pic! ((((((ss)))))) I've been following along too! I must say, the nest looks fit to burst!! The new babies must be due to fly the coop any moment now judging by their size. It's wonderful to be able to watch this again!
