I am confused. Reading the chatters this morning people keep asking if they are going to fledge today like it will be the first time. Hummmmm.... I am confused and still watching in hopes of seeing some action. They are buzzing those feathers pretty steady... oh... looks like Bea is ready to give it a go....
Thanks for this!

What a show they just gave!! Bea almost fell out of the nest or changed her mind about flying off. Not sure but there she was hanging on for dear life with her butt straight up in the air. As she struggled Jay took over the nest. Sat smack in the middle while Bea got upright again. The battle was on as the pushed and shoved went on for a while before Bea managed to take back her share of the nest again.

The pushing and shoving continues. ONe gains... one looses.... Bea is going to be pushed into flight I think.

Hehe!! Yes they are really battling for space in the nest now!

How can I tell who's who? They've jostled around so much I've lost track! They are taking turns fluttering now, and the one who's trying to rest looks quite disgruntled!

I've been following the chats and didn't hear that Bea and Jay flew. Is that true?? I read that there are three (?) nests in the rose bush. Phoebe has repaired them after the babes fledged. That nest is going to burst if they don't take off soon. I love the jewel colors (pinks, purples, sky blue, jade green)in the whole scene. They're amazing, like a Monet painting. I asked if it was a special filter, but was told by chatters that it's just the natural lighting. I want to move there!! Speaking from New England in winter. Blechh!

I know what you mean winginit. I think Bea has slightly more feathering under her beak. She just seems slightly bigger and her colouring a little more intense. Its subtle so I may just be imagining. lol.

I am beginning to think they have not yet taken flight Lavie. I may have started the rumour because I read a chatter say 'Is Bea back?' I took that to mean she had flown and returned. Seems I misunderstood so we are all still waiting premiere flights. Maybe tomorrow.

Looking at the camera set up page I recall seeing at least 6 nests. A chatter mentioned 10 today so not sure. We know there are at least 2 waiting for Bea and Jay. They are almost as big as mumma now.

Yes, the colours are really starting to get bright. So pretty and Monet-esk for sure.

Regarding one of the kids taking over the nest...I really liked how one chatter, maybe a mod, stated they don't actually push each other out. I thought cool, perhaps that is more of a human condition rather than a bird's life. It was a good occasion for the other little 'tyke' to learn how to balance, I guess (whoa that is quite a challenge). They probably will take turns. I read where one chatter mentioned that once the smallest, youngest one is ready to fly, they both will fly. How cool is that! They all bring me so much peace and joy when I observe them. I just love to watch Phoebe take care of her littles ones. The mods and chatters are so well informed!

Me thinks they might fly today or the formal way to put it may be to 'fledge', sorry not sure of the way to state it.

Phoebe is building another nest as she comes back to feed them and then she calls to them from a distance. It's so cute to see how their little heads turn as she flys away. Their eyes seems to follow her. It won't be long now. They are getting so fluffy and they do some really
good balancing. lol

I can't take the suspense anymore. I actually spent over two hours watching Bea and Jay and chatting with other watchers. I've gotten nothing done today and it's 2 pm my time! I was already annoyed with myself. To be charitable toward myself, it IS very addicting, and there's a lot in my day and life that I want to avoid. Good to know that there'll be video of the fledge on Facebook and Youtube if I miss it.
Thanks for this!

You are welcome Purple fins. I am glad you have been enjoying watching. Me too.

It has been a day or so since I lasted checked in on the phoebe family. I take it Bea and Jay have still not ventured out or am I wrong? Anyone know for sure?

Please don't beat yourself up about the time you spent with the hummers Lavie. It is a special event after all. It can become a bit addictive for sure but I find it very relaxing too. When ever I am on the computer I open the link and split my screen so I can keep an eye on them while I am working on something else.

Good to hear they plan to post a video of the flight when it happens.
Thanks for this!

I agree with Fins and the others sanity seeker - I've had much joy watching Phoebe and her babies - thank you. I wonder - will Phoebe build a new nest for her next set of babies?? I would love to see her build a nest.

Yes.... thanks Lavie for the info about a video being posted on facebook and youtube when it happens. I am less anxious now to feel like I have to keep watching so I don't miss anything.

I think watching phoebe build a nest would be very cool too Lynn. I read a chat post that said phoebe was busy making a new nest. Not sure if it is for the kids or what. I am curious to see where they go once they do fledge. Its been very educational.

My sister told me yesterday that there was a cam set up to watch a hummer with babs on Vancouver Island. Must be down near Victoria but even there... where bedding plants bloom all year round.... I would have thought would be too cold at this time of year.

I need to check this out some more.

Bea and Jay are still with us! Bea looks very well fed. Some chatters wondered if the babes are too heavy to fly
Phoebe is building another nest, according to the hosts. It's for the next generation of little hummers.

Here's a video link of one of the babies fledging - look how cute it is, the way the one looks at the other flying away.

I missed it too. boo hoo. Watching the video was kind of anti-climatic but I am grateful for it just the same.

Lynn posted the link to Bea's takeoff...... here is Jay's. He didn't take long to follow sis's lead. It was so precious watching him follow her and you had this feeling he was already missing her and that motivated him to let go of the nest and fly.

http://v7.tinypic.com/player.swf?file=33mx4r4&s=7

I still have the live cam open. It is nice to listen to all the chattering that goes on sometimes. I am guessing it is Phoebe and the kids buzzy around. Sometimes you can tell by the wing sounds that they are really near the camera. Hoping I might see them fly in front of the camera.

Its been a wonderful journey watching the miracle of nature up close and personal. Its been fun watching their progress with all of you. I think I am addicted and may find another stream to watch.
Thanks for this!

In fact, here is one of the videos!!!! It's wonderful!!!! Except it's kind of sad to see the other one looking a little bewildered as he's left behind!! But I'm sure there's a second video showing his flight too!

http://v7.tinypic.com/player.swf?file=30j4r2g&s=7

Yep!! Here's the second video!! Yay!!!!!!

I thought the same thing Sun. I was sad for Jay and the mother in me wanted to give him a hug to reassure him. How silly hey. We humans seem always to want to humanize the world around us. Interesting social dynamic.... where is Byz when you need him. Deep thought provoking ideas are his speciality.

Oh... I think one of them just flew in front of the camera. I thought it might land in the nest but in a flash it was gone again.

No chatters today. That somehow makes the naked nest seem that much emptier.
