No chatters today. That somehow makes the naked nest seem that much emptier.
LOL there were chatters for about 15 min are the fledging and then they left. Not much to talk about after that I guess. I logged onto the chat a few times but it was moving so fast, it was hard to follow. My 9 yr old wanted to chat and she told them she was a kid but one of mods kicked her out lol.

I'm still sad. The little family became a part of my life over the past 3 or 4 weeks.

I know what you mean. The saddest thing is seeing that empty nest Though of course it's good for them that they've flown! Greylove was saying that Phoebe is already working on a new nest!!!

I agree: "Mother of the Year!" Doesn't she have the cutest small round head...that little Phoebe! ...and those moderators were amazing with all their knowledge and the chatters made so many hilarious comments about all manner of things. I found myself laughing out loud each time I read their dialogue.

What a joy...thanks again SanitySeeker for pointing them out. I too watched them from little tic tac eggs to fledging. You just won't believe it, but, I purchased a little book on hummingbirds to read up on and for valentines day was able to find tiny little pewter hummingbird earings (for not too much) at the bird store that sells all manner of bird items. Watching those little birds was truly the highlite of my days. I'm definately hooked and it appears there is another nest...is that right?

Another egg watch is underway in a new nest. Not sure if it is Phoebe again because all I have seen so far is the nest. It says eggs were layed on Feb 21 so I take their word for it that eggs are in there. I am waiting to see who comes to the nest. I hope its Phoebe. I miss her.

Still no sign of phoebe and only one egg so far. Bea and Jay were 2 days apart so time will tell. I forget how long the gestation period is. Anyone else know how long before the eggs hatch?

Wow Phoebe is a busy bird. I didn't know she would have more eggs this fast. Does anyone know how many times a year she lays eggs? We're back to watching...I would like to see them come out of the eggs this time.

"The season for nesting is October through May/early June, and Phoebe will lay four to five clutches per season. One or two eggs are laid per clutch, they hatch after 17 days, and the chicks typically fly three to four weeks later. Phoebe will sometimes build a new nest, but frequently repairs old nests. "
There we go... my question (gestation period) and yours Lynn (number of 'clutches' per year. She is one busy mumma.

I know I have read this first go round (from Phoebe Facts on their website) but as with most things these days in one day and out the next.

I have yet to see Phoebe. My timing is bad I guess.

I think she is laying another egg or she just moved the one around. Did you guys see that. When she first came back to the nest it looked like she dropped one.

I am waiting patiently (NOT! lol) for her to leave the next now so I can see if there is another egg.

Oh there she goes.... dang can't see inside the next.

Me neither but maybe they have seen it when phoebe turns it or move it around. I got a quick peek at it when she came to the nest. That is what made me think she was laying another one.

I wish the camera was a little higher.

Did anyone else see that? Another hummer came to the nest. Chatters think it was Bea or Jay. Phoebe was having nothing to do with it and chased it off. Chatters say they are very territorial birds.

I still think she is trying to lay another egg

Dang... missed it again. Second egg was layed at 7:19 this morning. The morning I sleep late. Geesh. Anyone catch the moment? I braved my way onto the chat yesterday thanks to Moose's encouragement.

No I didn't see the eggs layed but I wonder if there's a link for that? I can't remember how long it takes for them to hatch. You would have to be pasted to the screen every second to catch the egg laying I think lol.

I think you are right Lynn. I was pasted to the screen yesterday and I thought then I was probably not going to see an egg layed. I was remembering that both Bea and Jay were layed in the early morning. And would't you know it.... 7 am just like Jay.

I am not sure if there is a video on it but it would be cool if there was. Like when the babies flew away.

I posted a quote from the site about the gestation period but I already forget.

Okay I went back to the post and it will be 17 days before they hatch and 3 to 4 weeks after that before they fly off on their own.
Thanks for this!
