Aha...The Big Apple! Gotham! The great city in the great state. The wonder of the Western world, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the rest! Yowee!
But... As I sit here... and this news is of little importance to most but a few here perhaps... The New York bleeping Rangers [Gawd love 'em 'cause they're all good fellers] are beating my Ottawa Senators. Hockey y'know. I'm a Canadyun. I have to gripe about this. Wherever I am...Whatever I'm doing... GO SENS!!! Spring in Canada. Hockey. Playoffs. Wot a silly hobby huh? Good stuff...one more period left...still time...still time.... Guh Guh GO!!!! SENS!!! RAUGHHHH!!!! heh...no worries...I'm being an NHL playoff geek. It happens. |

in 12th grade, I made an outfit out of almost the same brown flowery pattern material as Don Cherry was wearing yesterday!

Gak!! Brown flowery fabric HAS to be miles ahead of the pop art attack he's assaulting viewers with tonight. Augh! That thing can spark epileptic seizures.

Don Cherry is not unique in his attire. Bud Collins - the tennis writer and commentator - is also famous for his loud clothing. As was NY Mets announcer Lindsey Nelson.
NYC needs the Rangers to be successful - it will take our minds off our struggling NY Mets! |

You're right but only Grapes is as loud as some of the outfits he assaults us with! I do fancy those old style collars though. Sharp cut to his duds really. Barring many of those fabric patterns.
Ha ha! you're right di meliora! Well in a few years there may be more miming than maiming. They're cleaning up the nasty hitting stuff. |

Did you see the 2 Grapes bio movies? They were on CBC (Canadian tv). I only watched the first. Blue was great, he had a starring role, of course! I think I read that they used a lot of the same footage and or costumes from the Rocket movie. On House a couple of weeks ago, they had an injured hockey player, and he TOTALLY mispronounced LeMieux. One of the drs was playing an old table hockey game with the patient on the bed, and he goes, "And the Pocket Rocket scores!"

One of the highlights of my life thus far has been crashing into Don Cherry at Disneyland. (Literal 'crashing into'!) He is so committed to those loud suits that he was even wearing one in the California heat.

How are You hankster! No I missed both of those. Great mind joggle tho...sometimes CBC has previous programming available at their site online. Just checked. Keep your Head Up Kid part 1 is starting as I type. Well now I was having a hard time finding something to watch today too! Wisht I saw that house episode just to guffaw! Hi Fishsandwich! UK visits California and runs over our famous Canuck! Hilarious! I think he's a nice guy with folks. It's 1/2 his job really. Even when he's 'victimized! ![]() |

Oh yeah KittyClaws and I forgot you're across the pond. That's a bigger trip than I first thought. It's our continents heart really I suppose in many respects. I'm a big fan of NYC. It's size influence and history just boggles me. Never been! Made phone calls once to check on travel routes and accomodations etc but caved on the idea. There's a site I regularly visit. It's called forgotten-ny.com. A great site to wander thru for fans of the place. It isn't a touristy site. Eventually it'll be recognized as a historical document. An extremely involved history lesson in photos and text. He discovers and documents traces and stories of disappearing history all over the area. Enough work yet to keep him at it for years.
Anyway I meant to suggest this before I got sidetracked with my history hobby. Perhaps you'll know where she'll be [like staying or the big venues/places she might visit for example] and pull it up on Google Earths Streetview for fun. Sort of a pseudo-shared experience! If it's her 1st time there I envy her. Especially if she's hasn't been to North America yet. The culture 'shock' should be fantastically amazing. Some day I've got to get down there. A train i think is 8 hours but that's the simplest part. I'd ideally want at least a month to comb that place over to my liking and let it all sink in. I heart NY!!! Bye kittyC! |

oh, there is also a really good CBC movie about wayne gretzky's dad recovering from a stroke. That was something. And if you haven't seen the Rocket movie, highly recommend it. CBC also did a Ken Burns type series on hockey, which was totally awesome! Can you tell my T is a hockey player? But I also have super-8 footage of me on the backyard ice rink! Oh, and in high school, I lived across the alley from Red Wings Gary Unger and Pete Stemkowski, who shared a house. I interviewed them for the school newpaper. I also used to report to the girls chorale on what was in their garbage - I remember canned green beans and chocolate milk!

Unger and Stemkowski! I had those guys on hockey cards as a young feller. That story flashed an image in my head I haven't remembered in years! I know exactly what this card looks like. Unger was a St. Louis Blue by then. Jeez I can see it now! Funny stuff Hankster! I like looking at my old minor hockey pics when i visit my sis. She's the custodian of all our old family pics. no movies tho. That would be fascinating! God How many kids have grown up being their favorite player on the road or in like peewee and stuff? Did kids do that back in the 30s 40s and earlier? I'll bet they did. Did you ever see the animated French Canadian short about the kid who got a leafs sweater instead of a Canadiens one. He wanted to be Richard. Used to play on TV during commercials a lot. A Canadian vignettes were these little shorts played at odd times during commercial time. it's on Youtube somewhere. I saw it a couple of yrs ago. i think it's called 'The Sweater"
I had the Cherry movie on last night from the CBC archives online. @ minutes in a friend stopped by for a while and I paused it. I'll going watch it as soon as I have time. Will def. be looking for that Ken Burns thing. Will google it later. He's a good doc. guy. Arghhh...missed the Richard one too but caught bits. I used to...and still do...have problems planning and sitting through events like long shows. Even when i know i'll enjoy it. I'll get better. I miss alot. One I missed too was the one about the Super Series 1972. Heard it was good. I remember seeing those, and the final game in the school gym on a tv. Crazy event back then. Cold war foolishness etc. I was only 11 or so but the fever nationwide was palpable. Even to us youngsters. We [Team Canada]were a dirty bunch of ruffians huh? I think we were humbled too tho. Our hockey training systems sure changed after that. We knew we were lucky! |

saw the movie, now have the book - in french and english! Le Chandail! got it for xmas this year! T had it in english, brought it in, I ordered the others on amazon. Roch is one of the commentators on Hockey: A People's History. There is also a coffee table book available. Loved the movie about the series with the russians!
Yeah, Unger had those blond Beatle bangs. He was dating Miss Michigan at the time (around 1969), who I believe went on to become Miss America that year. I love NYC also. I happened to be there the first year they had the Grand Prix in Detroit (where i'm from). So I'm at idk, the MOMA? the Whitney? and there is this installation of 64 (or more?) televisions stacked on top of each other forming these great patterns - of the Detroit Grand Prix. Funny! |

Very cool! Almost made it to Detroit once. An impromptu road trip one Saturday brought myself and a pal to Port Huron. We debated but didn't proceed. He was a bit apprehensive whilst me? There are times when I'd go to the poles with a sandwich and coffee if the road existed. Oh wait...i did take a friend down at 3 in the morning to the airport. She was going to Colorado i think with no flight out of TO. That's miles from the core though I guess. Detroit! Another iconic city for the ages!
I'm involved with the local mental health assoc. here in my town as a client. Means I see a counsellor every week or two to basically chat over any concerns etc. I suggested [upon learning they have a small group budget] that we perhaps see who might be interested in a group visit to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. They're going to look into it and I'll be there grinning like a cat. How many years have I been in the area and not taken that in?! Shame! heh |
