Mom was in better spirits tonight and not as tense. She is fairly mobile and just picks up her drainage "jug" and walks with it. She is feeling a little out of breath but determined to get a bit more walking done tomorrow. I am holding all hopes out that she will be out next week. (Especially since hubby is going away for three whole weeks).

Sounds positive I think it is to be expected that she is a little out of breath as she has been through so much, Fingers crossed that she continues on her recovery (((hugs)))

Know it's frustrating for her, but she went through some major surgery & there is a lot of healing her body has to go through.....it wasn't just a simple surgery like we all seem to be used to.

I know my mother went into her cancer surgery thinking it would be nothing more than like her hysterectomy. She was definitely NOT realistic about it. I think it's important for us to be realistic about the surgery we are going through.

For the hospital to NOT have her pain medication IMO would be inexcusable. I have never heard of a hospital not having pain medication in all my experiences. I was angry that after my mother's surgery they didn't have the drip system that you can push the button to get the pain medication every 15-20 minutes......to me that was inexcusable because I even had that kind of pain medication after my knee reconstruction.....so to not have it after a major surgery like my mother had.....made me angry at her surgeon........hope you push the issue with the patient liaison officer.

It is good that your mother will be up & walking more. They always say that healing comes quicker the more we move around (with some limitations). Helps with the breathing & the more oxygen in the blood goes to healing the incision . Hope you mother's healing keeps improving.....but keep holding onto your patience.

gosh, my Mom is still in hospital! On Wednesday it will be a month! She still has a drainage tube in and it is still bubbling. She won't be going anywhere until this stops.

My friend had a part of a lobe removed just because they thought it was cancer. She was 70 when she had it done and it took her a real long time to feel better. I hope Mom will be doing better soon. That was serious surgery and its going to take a little time for her to be herself again...Hang in there!!!

My Mom has just told me that there are hardly any bubbles today and that the one suction tube has been removed. If there are no more bubbles on the drainage over the next few days, the tube will be removed and she can come home. Hold all thumbs and toes and anything else please.

Sabrina, I just remembered I saw this special on CNN regarding medical mistakes. Here is the link - note mistake #6 is regarding blood bubbling in chest tubes and also proper way to remove the tubes.
