I'm not going to bore with the details of what I hate so much about myself, but I find myself wishing more and more that I just looked like someone more beautiful. I really think I'm ugly and have so many ugly features. I'm not looking for "you are beauty within" sort of posts. It is what it is. I can't bare to look in the mirror. I'm not the same woman my husband married. I believe my looks are the main reason for my depression.

So, do you ever wish you were someone else, or at least looked different?

i wish i look pretty but i dont wish to look like other pretty girl i still want me just the pretty version one

if you think its the source of your depression, is there something that you could do to change that? maybe new hairstyle or buy new dress and ask your husband to go on date just like an old days maybe that would help

I want to look like me although yea there are things I'd like to change for sure. But I wouldn't want anyone else's facial traits or anything.

Yeah, I do all the time, too. When I was in high school, I wanted to look like Teri Hatcher...now I think Mariska Hargitay (well from about 10 years ago) is pretty. I would love to look like her!

But, I would be happy to look like I did in High school...much thinner then! So funny how I didn't think I was pretty enough back then and now I want to look like me back then!!! HAHA! We humans are confusing creatures!

Great thread Sabrina!

Gain weight, loose weight, age is not usually kind......there are things that we can do that can help....but there are some things that we just need to accept.

Would never want to look like someone else though.....just work on the me that I am but would never do surgery to change anything other than the oral surgery to remove my teeth that have broken off because of the bad enamel I ended up with because of being sick & the antibiotics I took during those years my adult teeth were forming. It would be nice so smile again & not have a mouth full of broken off teeth....but haven't had the money....next year, going to the dental school & that is becoming my NEW priority.

Hope you can find some way of accepting yourself & working on the things that you are able to change for the better & mostly if necessary for your health because that should be the priority

All the time. I wish I was thinner, more toned and fit, tanner, had nicer colored hair that doesn't come from a bottle, no cellulite, no stretch marks, no acne, no acne scars, no dark ugly circles under my eyes, I wish my skin wasn't so oily, maybe someone who looks like Emma Watson would be nice.

Ditto. I had a horrible self-image in high school. I thought I was fat with bad skin. Six years later I can't believe how beautiful I was back then. I'd give almost anything to look like I did 100 pounds ago.

Everyday, I wish i was someone else. I look in the mirror and see everything i hate from head to toe. I cant change how i look, and I always wonder how i can accept it, because it makes me so miserable.

Depending on the day, I might wish I didn't have a pimple, or wish that I didn't eat so much, but honestly, what can u do... I think life is all about learning to be accepting of yourself. It's not easy... That's why it's a journey.

There are times when I don't feel as attractive, or when I feel like someone is better looking than myself. I have never once wished that I wanted to look like someone else. I like how I look because this is ME. I am not like anyone else and I wouldn't want to be. I was born this way and I'll die this way and I'm perfectly content with it.

Am I the only person thinking attractive is an odd word? I mean, if I look good in my own eyes, I cannot say that is attractive, because attractive is always from another person's viewpoint. I don't want to have someone else's, I want mine. Also, what does one say if one thinks someone is good looking but is not attracted? They use the word attractive anyway, but for me it sounds wrong..

I know exactly what you mean! I wish I could go back in time and slap my 17 year old self.
And like someone, I think the OP, mentioned, stress takes a toll. I look tired all the time (well, I actually am), I stopped my hair and skin regime (what's the point?), my diet is horrible. I was actually 98 lbs about 8 years ago. I'm not even gonna say what I weigh now. Since I left my job in 2010, the stress from that turned me into an all out sugar addict. I didn't weigh as much as I do now each time I was pregnant!

I most likely did (wish I looked like someone else) when I was much younger, usually when I was around junior high or high school age. Right now, I'm fine with myself. I can't change things too much anymore, and there are things I simply can't help or shouldn't try to change anymore do to negative consequences. What seems hard for me right now is to try and maintain myself under all this unnecessary stress and sadness I tend to put myself through. I wish I could be something else.

I often wished I could correct certain features of my own such as the nose that was leaning to the left get straightened, or my thinning hair professionally treated, but there was never a specific look of another person I wanted to have. I wanted their wealth or their singing talent, or ability of some kind, but never desired to physically resemble someone.

when i was younger i wished i was thin, now i am older i wish i looked like i did when i was younger. funny how we don't see how beautiful we were until it is all gone south and is beyond salvage!
I wouldn't want to change the life i have had eventhough it has been pretty awful at times, because everything i have experienced has made me who i am today and apart from my shape i am proud of who i am.

Although I'm not a great looking guy in my own sight, I never really wish I looked like someone else or anything. But...

I do wish (for real) that many of the unaware beautiful women out there really knew they were. What I mean is I've met so many women that just couldn't see how attractive they were, due to such low self esteem and many times I've wished they didn't see themselves in such a warped mirror. I hate this world and the perfection it tries to force on us, especially women.

Sorry if this didn't fit the subject, I just wanted to say that.

You know I wished I looked the way I did ten years ago, because I absolutely hate my body now. I had such a thin and sexy figure, but its all about perception. I hated the way I looked then too, even though I was a knockout!

Its so funny we are never happy where we are, myself included

Hopefully someday doctors will be cheaper and tummy-tuck/liposuction etc. won't be so expensive...until then, I just try to be there for my family, because at the end of the day, they don't care if I am bald or covered in moles, they would still love me. Keeps my chin up amongst such a superficial day.

Yeah I do. I have body issues though. I sometimes get the delusion that I look better than when I look in the mirror and see the weight and then I get really depressed. Really sucks.

I don't look in the mirror all that much and don't have a full-length mirror. I'm getting to an age where it doesn't really matter; not much I can or really need/care about doing anything about now (old enough so I can't just go out and lose weight/firm muscles, assuming I still have any muscles :-) My husband loves me and that is what is important to me, not how I think I look to him or what my physical self is doing.
