A friend invited me for dinner last night and I was in the kitchen helping to get things ready. I opened the cranberry sauce and proceeded to scoop it out and stir it up like I always do. She was horrified!!
So now I'm curious to know what the split is

Which way do you serve it?

Do you plop it out and leave it can shaped and slice it?

Or do you smoosh it and stir it all up?

You know what? I think I will scoop it out and stir it all smooshed together this year. No kidding! It sounds pretty cool.

lol. I leave it can shaped and standing up and down (Like it's still in the can.), but never thought about how strange that was before. We don't serve anything else can shaped. I think your way is better. A can shaped cranberry sauce is not very elegant.

We dump it out in a bowl can shaped and take spoonfuls of it. I like the other options though.

Plopping it out, takes finesse I take a butter knife, around the can, then let it slide and then slice. At work, scoops work. Haven't considered the mixing of the cranberry sauce...hmmm...

Plop it out of the can and scoop servings with a spoon. Last year I ate alone and scooped it straight out of the can!

We have several cranberry lovers in the house at the holiday (sometimes if we can all get together) with their own particulars. On those occasions: half of the canned jellied cranberry can gets sliced, the other half gets mixed, and then there is the whole cranberries sauce, which gets mixed.

My mom always plopped it out and just cut it up.

I've never seen anyone stir it up. Probably why your friend stared at you, lol Don't worry, though. I'm sure there's no rule about it.

The jellied Cranberry sauce, I completely blend in Raspberry Jello & then smother it in a cream cheese toping with crushed almonds.

The canned whole cranberry sauce, I use basically in a chutney sort of sauce. I really have to get the recipe from the lady on Sunday who made this totally yummy dish using the whole cranberry sauce.....it didn't have the carrots or the pineapple or anything that I could tell in it...but it was a lot sweeter than just the canned & she said she did something with it other than just dumping it out of the can.

I always love to add stuff to make flavors blend & change to what makes me really like the flavor.....so I always look for different recipes using ingredients that I really like & then sometimes I even combine recipes.

Never know what you are going to get when you ask me to bring something to a meal.....but it won't be something just plain you can bet on it.

You just have to use an opener on the other end too, it needs an air hole/break in that end of the can to release the suction.

The whole berry is great in the crock pot with chicken stock, onions, etc. to cook pork roasts.

That sounds delicious! Thanks, I'll have to try that.

Sad but true - I've never even thought of using it in other things. I'm not much of a cook.

eskielover, I think you've just helped me figure out why my neighbors cranberry sauce was so sweet. LOL jello! that makes perfect sense. I guess I can give up my quest for that super sugary brand I thought she found.
