Does anyone here recognize themselves as having traits of being an empath or a highly sensitive person?
I believe that I am an emotional empath. I'd be interested in hearing from others.
Thanks for this!

Hiya fairydustgirl. Welcome to PC.

There was a discussion on empaths a while ago but I couldn't find it. There are a few of us on PC.
I know I am an empath. Being an empath is sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse. I get so tired from it.

Here is one link.

There are more sites on Google too.

Yes I am an empath. I also have some psychic ability. There's an interesting Facebook group for empaths. You might want to check it out.
How does being an empath affect you? Do you find it draining?
Thanks for this!

Yes. I read "The Highly Sensitive Person" by Elaine Aron and immediately thought "oh wow, somebody actually 'gets it' ".

*Raises hand*

Yes, I have "fit" into the empath or HSP description since I was very young. Unfortunately, being a HSP/caretaker/empath ended up with me being badly hurt too many times. Now (I'm 51) I struggle quite a bit with feeling self-protective. And jaded. In large part, my psychic abilities frighten me. I find myself at a strange place in my life.

I'm grateful, fairydustgirl, for this thread. In the seven months I've been on this forum I do believe this is the very first thread that really touched my soul on a personal level.

Yes. I am an intuitive empath and worked as a physic for eight years. I also did angel readings, past life readings, remote viewing and I was clairvoyant.

I will tell you a secret about physics. People do not call physics to learn the future-they call because they just need someone nonjudgemental to listen to them. A few operate from greed but most believe you must leave people with hope. That hope can open doors in their lives that may signal a change for the better and allow them to be more open to the positive.

I used a technique called cartomancy. It operates around patterns with the regular deck of cards. And I have both given and heard some amazing readings.

But it's like anything else-when you close that door in your soul, you lose much of your abilities. I had to quit after eight years because I simply could not absorb anymore of other people's pain.

And no-I've never won the lottery. A big part of all this is that most physics cannot read for themselves or for those very close to them.

So many of you may have abilities you are not aware of yet. And Sister, I believe you would be amazing.

I believe empaths (as in those with the ability to sense the emotional state of others without any clues such as body language or tone) do probably exist. People have mistaken me for having some abilities in psychic areas before, but I suspect what they're seeing is just my very abstract type of intelligence, which enables me to make obscure connections and seem very intuitive. I really operate on a cognitive level, though.

As soon as I have time I want to research what the difference between an "empath" and "an empathetic person:" is. Or if there's a difference. Does anyone have any knowledge on that?

There is a difference between being able to show empathy for a person. It is good to be able to care about a person you know/meet and get to know them. It is great to have compassion for others. Having empathy for another person, peoples, race, situation etc but then when that person has gone from your mind then your emotions can easily be refocused.

For myself, being an empath is having that capacity turned up to a very high level. For me when I walk into a room at times I can sense the mood that is there and I find it so overwhelming. I can be in places where people are, say a supermarket, not even at the check out yet. and am totally freaked out and I cant stop other peoples emotions impacting me. I can be in one room and a person can be in another room and I can feel exactly what they are feeling and when they leave that room my emotions go back to normal. Nobody has to tell me stuff, i just feel like some emotional human sponge. I find it impossible to know what my emotions are at times because the other persons emotions have moved in over mine . I cant separate where things are comings from. I cannot watch news shows. They weigh me down. I often feel heart sick from things in the world that I just have to hide away from every thing and everyone. It is so hard to refocus.

I had never heard the word Empath until the last couple of years but everything fits. Some people think it is wonderful. The pain I feel from it is a curse.

Sister Rags - I am untrained and a sponge and have not learnt any skill about this. But I just found this one the web and it helped me so I hope it helps you too.

Possum, that sounds like what I experience also. I can also feel things from objects if I literally touch them. It can be driaining but am learning to block & shield.
It's weird...though I would help anyone in any way I could, I have enough of my own emotions to feel.
Thanks for this!

How wonderful to find a discussion on being an empathy. I was diagnosed at the age of 19as being highly aware of other peoples feelings, and yes it is exhausting. It has also led me into some really bad relationships , as I hold on until I am exhausted and can no longer function. I am currently involved with a sociopath and have tried on several occasions to break free , but it's easier said than done , as sociopaths are like bright lights to a moth , for an empath.

We are getting a little bit lost in the language here. Empath is a noun. As in, I am an empath. Empathic is the same thing-the two words are interchangable. Empathy is what I feel.

Those who can sense emotion through the tactile sense of touch are also called readers.

Those of you who take in too much information so that it is actually painful, can train yourself to 'tune out'. If you don't learn to control it, you will overload. You are too sensitive to others feelings and telepathic to a certain degree. The problem is magnified when you are near other telepaths who are 'broadcasting' and are probably not even aware that they have this gift. It's like shouting into someone elses mind.

Telepathy is the ability to 'broadcast' your thoughts and feelings into another telepaths mind. It is not picking up or putting out words as some people believe. That is too precise a description for this skill. But it is not the same thing as empathy. I hope I am being clear about the difference.

The way to train your mind not to pick up on other's emotions is through meditation. Like anything else, it is practice and repetition. You must tell your mind to close the gates. You must tell it to stop letting too much information through. Do this on a daily basis, with music or without, in guided or in free meditation, and you will learn how to 'turn down the volume'.

Many of you who are experiencing these skills are physic. Like any skill, you must hone it, work on it, practice through both prayer and meditation if you want to develope your skills. There are many different kinds of physics, with many degrees of skill. Throulgh practice you will learn what your paticular skills are.

If you are interested in how to begin doing readings or in anything else in this post, please ask me and I will be happy to share whatever I can.

Lady C.

Interesting, I have never read about this before. As long as I can remember I "cared" so much it hurt. I will have to ask my therapist about this, he says I am a humanist and I wonder if that is the same thing. My husband has always said to me "you care too much" and that he has never met anyone like me, where when I see someone struggling I stop and take the time to help them. One therapist I had told me not to spend time at PC because I will spend too much time helping others and not take care of myself. But what if one "likes" helping others?

At Christmas, I am the last one to open gifts, well, I spend so much thought in what I get for people I want to see them open their gifts up, I enjoy that more than opening my own gifts tbh.

I always felt the best thing was when I had a student or someone I love walk away with a skip in their step because they achieved something. I will never understand any gain by making someone unhappy or to pick on them or take advantage of them somehow or gang up on someone, what is the gain, what is the point?
Thanks for this!

Yes Lady Courtesan, that's very true. That is why I've had to practice blocking, cleansing and shielding. I'm still learning. There is a lot of very good info on Google as well as what you provided.
Thank you for the information.
