DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! Ok, tomorrow the subject title will look bad to me but tonight I can't make up my mind whether to be mad or cry from relief!!

I had Amber out for her last long walk of the night. The thin 20 ft lead got wrapped around the axel of my chair so I turned her loose and made her sit in front of me. She started wandering around so I let her, hoping she'd poo right there and we could come home. Couldn't go for much of a walk with the lead wrapped around the axel. But she got smart on me, realized she wasn't on the leash and ran at full speed out the front gate of the park.

She made a few good runs around me then disappeared around the outside corner. Before I knew it she had come back in the back gate and right back out the front gate and across the street!! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

Yep! She almost got hit by two cars going at least 55 miles an hour and the third was a charm. It got her dead to rights! She flew up in the air, hit the ground and spun. Did she ever come running to me then! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! She was yiping up a storm but she was alive. After I checked her out and a neighbor checked her out, I took her by her collar and led her slowly back home. She didn't use her front left leg. I've checked her out again and she doesn't even wince when I touch her. Tried to get her to get a drink of water and she did put some weight on that leg. Don't think I'm not watching her eyes, though! How can a dog get hit so hard, land so hard and not have anything wrong with her! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

I surely thought I had just watched her get killed. I was surprised when she got up and ran for me. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

********

Well, I just tried to get her up on her couch because she couldn't do it on her own. Her elbow seems to be swollen and she yiped when I touched it. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! She has a tire mark right below it. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

More later... I guess. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

Thanks, Pat. I know you're an animal lover as well.

Five hours later and her eyes are normal. It looks sometimes like her leg is swollen and the ribs right above it but when she stands up, everything looks normal. She's had a drink of water and half her portion of food for tonight. So far, so good... although I did have to raise her water and food a few inches; to the footstool on my chair. It hurt her to lean down to the floor to eat and drink.

That's a hell of way to learn respect for cars, but maybe she's learned. I had noticed that she thinks she can walk up to a moving car as if it was a person walking past her. Been trying to teach her to be wary of moving vehicles by saying "Car! Car!" and pulling her to me, but she wasn't getting it. Hopefully, now she has. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! Poor baby! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

Be, only thing I can think of is that her guardian angel took the worst of the impact for her. She's not built with heavy muscle, just a wee bit of "cushion." From what I saw, she should be dead. The car didn't go over her, just hit her, but she went flying into the air and landed on her back. It's a wonder the car behind the one that hit her didn't run her over. Somehow it managed to stop. The person that hit her just kept right on going! Didn't even slow down! I don't understand people like that!! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

Well, she made it through the night just fine. She's gonna be okay. Before I went to bed, she was really wanting on her couch so I went over and was gonna try to help her up but she managed to jump up by herself, not putting any weight on her left leg.

When I got up this morning, she was laying on the floor. She kept giving me looks like it was all my fault! LOL Maybe she thinks it was ME that hit her. :scratch_head:

We went out for a short walk and on our way home she had pretty much worked out the stiffness. We went past the front gate but she wouldn't go near it. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! She watched the cars go by and inched back a bit. You think maybe she's learned her lesson? A neighbor told me that when he was a kid, they had a dog that got hit by cars several times. HE never learned his lesson. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! Just can't take any chances with her, I guess. So much for turning her lose this spring to reduce the rabbit population around here! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

Kids and dogs! I swear! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

i am not sure that animals can rationalize as we wish they would. i know that i've had dogs that were smarter than others but then the smart one would do something so dumb that i'd nearly pass out.

it's always risky. having and loving animals. they just have an unpredictability that we can't fathom. and some never, ever act out but others do.........

i'm so glad that she's okay. scared me to death..........pat

IDK. She's so good in so many ways. She's nearly perfect. I just can't trust her where she isn't enclosed somehow, somewhere. And she just LOVES to run! I know she was playing with me but simply didn't know what cars can do.

I didn't realize that I was traumatized until this afternoon. Jerry and I drove on the street where she was hit and I felt the horror even worse today than I felt it last night. Coming home just now, I couldn't bear to look at the place. It's not like she bled there or anything. She doesn't have a scratch on her.

Today I can laugh at how she knew exactly where I was and how fast she came to me yiping all the way. She got as close as she could to my chair and sat as if on command, still yiping. She didn't stop until I rubbed her leg to see if any bones where sticking out.

Then the looks Jerry and I were getting this morning when we got up, as if to say, "Why did you guys hurt me so bad??? I'm pouting, can't you see?" LOL Poor baby! Dingy dog! But it's her dinginess that I love so much. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!! Mercy! When she gets to running like that, she's got a smile on her face of pure joy! Her whole face lights up and you can see the mischief in her eyes. LOL It cost her last night. DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

Like I said, kids and dogs! DAMN, DAMN DOG!!!!

I am so glad that she is ok! I had a dog get hit by a car once and she was scratched up from head to toe. I just thought that she would die..she laid out in the yard under the cmaper for three days not eating just drinking water.. she came out three days later and ok..
