Lets discuss different types of food that are popular in different areas.

Inspired by the dirty rice I'm about to eat which is a creole dish popular in New Orleans, what are some of your favorite foods and where do they originate? What about types of food that are popular specifically in your hometown?

I am originally from New York, a cultural melting pot. I grew up with lots of different types of food, Spanish, Italian, Jamaican, Irish, etc.

I live in Kentucky now. Sweet tea is popular in this area as well as fried fish and chicken which, while not the healthiest, is delicious

I'm in Maryland and we are into Blue Crabs (and other seafood, our oysters are well known too) and pit beef. But Maryland is also the home of Maryland Fried Chicken (Perdue is based here). We have lots of good stuff.

I love South Carolina style shrimp and grits!

As a native NYer, our local pizza is always delish. It's not too heavy and the variety of toppings is diverse. And, most importantly, the crust is crispy and thin.

Many NYC wine stores have excellent selections with bottles from around the world and excellent price points. It's possible to get an excellent bottle of wine for at little as $10.

Okay, NYC is NOT known for excellent BBQ and Mexican food though they are getting better. I've been considering a trip to Texas and other states (e.g., North Carolina) to sample the BBQ.

My in-laws both graduated from LSU. They introduced me to Cajun boiled crawfish. I love those mudpuppies!

I live in Florida. Obviously, the state is known for it's citrus. I like the fruit just as it is. Farmers also grow strawberries. Fresh picked berries are great! I used to spend half a day picking in a u-pick field. Then I'd come home and make my own jam. yummmmmmm

I don't much care for it, but the state's also known for Key Lime pie. Little known fact - "real" Key Lime pie is yellow, not green. The green pies have food coloring added to give them the color.

I'm originally from south MN. Thanks to the many Norwegians in the area lutefisk and lefse are common....I wouldn't call it a favorite but around the holidays I crave it as its part of the traditional holiday for me.

Wild rice and walleye is popular and tasty but more of a northern MN dish.

I live in TX now and BBQ seems to be the most popular.

Growing up in N.J. in the shadow of NYC food is just a huge part of the lifestyle.
In NYC pretty much the whole world is represented by restaurants serving every
type of food you can think of.
Obviously N.Y. and N.J. have excellent Italian food and the best pizza IMHO.
Also for a great sandwich its tough to beat the old world Jewish Deli that you
find in N.Y. and N.J. best sandwiches I have ever had.

I'm a born & raised Oklahoman.
People love their gravy here. On everything. (Yuck)
The most popular & famous is the chicken fried steak. Traditionally served with mashed potatoes, green beans, AND PLENTY OF GRAVY.
It's even our "state meal"

I opt for the liquid part of the south.
I need a 24/7 IV drip of sweet tea.
A gallon a day.

Where I'm from originally (in the southeast) fried catfish fillets cornmeal coated, are on every menus. Usually served with cold slaw, fries or baked potato. It is very very tasty!
Amazingly now Mexican food is close second in that state. Although it is a tame version of what I prefer where I live now.

Okay here's another one that you'd eat pretty often if you were South African - Biltong - it tastes absolutely nothing like beef jerky what so ever (probably due to completely different spices - but it's a similar kind of concept. Various types of meat are used to produce it, ranging from beef and game meats to fillets of ostrich from commercial farms:

A Pork Tenderloin sandwich where the Pork Tenderloin's diameter is at least twice that of the bun

I'm from Indiana and no one makes a Pork Tenderloin sandwich like we do

STOP IT! You're making me hungry! I love Indian food, Korean, Japanese, Egyptian, and more. Also good southern food. I love desserts and sweets the most, but I'm trying to cut down on that.

"Slosh Losh Mc'Gosh"

lol I am in San Fran, so also very cultured restaurants here along with a majority of health conscious delis and such. But i will stick with my macaroni and tuna with mayo and other throw together home made foods! be creative, and eat it cause you want it. Oh and everything in moderation!
