Does your hair behave? Does it look relatively nice and agreeable?
I'd like to learn how to make my hair actually look neat, organized, and you know... polished. Right now it's unruly and sneaky. It escapes barrettes, frizzles itself madly, and generally just squiggles around. I'm afraid that I look unkempt and messy, and I'd like to be able to create a better image for myself (at least for special occasions.) Here's what I've tried. 1. I'm trying to avoid harsh chemicals. Right now, I wash twice a week with baking soda and diluted white vinegar. It makes my hair feel really clean and nice, surprisingly! I follow up with a tiny bit of Morrocan oil while it's wet, and most of the time let it air dry. 2. I experimented with the blow dryer for the last few weeks. I let my hair air dry about 85% of the way (it's thick, if I try to blow dry it out of the shower it will take HOURS, and still be a mess). This definitely straightened out the wonky bits of hair... yet... amazingly, it still got frizzy and messy. Once it was blown dry, when I brushed it (even the next day) it was awesome, straight, and lovely. For about 3 minutes. Then... boom! Frizzly and unkempt! Aside from the fact that the blow dryer doesn't magically make my hair stay unfrizzly, I kind of like the little bit of natural waviness in my hair, I think. 3. Awhile ago, I tried a flat iron (my friend swears by them). I'm not sure that I got the hang of it, and was a bit scared of totally frying my hair. 4. I actually HAVE asked my hair stylist. He tried to show me how to use the hair dryer (see #2!). But, I'm obviously still failing. I don't need anything fancy, I just want to look a little more polished. Are there any websites or books that helped you achieve this? Or do you just live with whatever your hair decides to do? Thanks for any advice! (For the record, I'm a female with long-ish hair. There's a lot of it, apparently, though I *think* the individual hairs are considered "fine".) |

It took me awhile to figure out how to deal with my overly curly hair, but my conclusion is to just feed your hair nutrients both internally and topically. I made a daily moisturizing spray made of apple cider vinegar, aloe vera, water, and a very small amount of honey (the apple cider vinegar smell goes away when drying (if there is a smell from the spray)). I also got rid of my plastic comb in favor of an ox horn one (as long as your hair is dry when you comb it, there's less hair fall and damage). It also helps to get a protein shampoo and to set your hair dryer on the cool setting (or just use the air conditioner), it's easier to avoid heat damage though it can take a little longer to dry after a wash.

I have finally found the right combination of products that typically keep my hair from looking like an exploding poodle.
I use Verb products . Not very pricey but good quality . I suds up once, Apply conditioner and let set about 5 mins and rinse out and rinse out again. Wrap in a towel, wait 15-20 mins unwrap spray on the leave in conditioner. I only wash my hair twice a week, but more if its super hot and humid. I deep condition once a week. I allow my hair to towel dry as much as possible. I either let it just air dry and use a dry hair oil to just smooth over. Or I do a quick blow out using a a round brush that leaves some wave or I do the blow out then follow up with my flat iron. I mostly air dry. My hair is grateful I hate the feel of "products " in my hair and my current stuff is weightless and smells wonderful. Lastly and this is a must , I use a small amount of the ghost hair oil, just a few drops is all that's needed to tame daily. This is the products I use : Verb hydrating shampoo 14.00 condition 14.00 Leave in conditioner spray 14.00 Daily Ghost oil 14.00 Hairspray 14.00 There brushes 14.00 Yes everything is 14.00 each . It is a great product line. I cant tell you how many bottles of stuff that I bought and found either useless or too heavy or too harsh for my hair. It takes forever to go through the leave in condition, oil and hairspray. Shampoo and condition last me about 4 weeks each ( I dont wash daily as that just strips my color treated hair to death), so really its rather cheap compared to all the drugstore crap I use to buy. No I don't own stock in this company, I just like quality products that actually work for me. I finally learned really the less I do to my hair the better it looks.. I dont know how my hair survived the 80's ![]()

I'm a guy & have always had unruly hair. For years it has be the bane of my existence but it would seem now that a natural solution has come along... it is all falling out.
![]() Seriously though, as far as guys go the easiest way to keep hair neat is to keep it reasonably short. I have also had some success in using mousse designed for fine hair, which I guess is good for both sexes!

Thanks everyone... and you guys with your short or non-existant hair
![]() I'm female (oops, meant to mention), with longish hair. JustTVTroping - thanks for the tips. Interesting that the apple cider vinegar works well for you. I rinse with diluted white vinegar, because when I tried apple cider vinegar... I could NOT get the smell out for a WEEK... for some reason, my hair is really good at holding on to smells! (Thanks, hair!). I've only started playing with the hair dryer and do try to keep the heat low, but so far, the results have not been impressive! Christina, thanks for the recommendations! I really hate the feel of stuff in my hair too... I'll have to check out the Verb line. Thanks! I've never heard of "ghost oil"... now I'm really curious! Thanks... I appreciate the tips! |

I always wanted that great polished hair I get from the hair dresser. It lasts until the first wash...then poof.
I finally decided no one would recognize me and just go with it...but those vibe. Products .....hmm maybe if I got those?
