Until yesterday? Absolutely nothing. Still having my eyesight and the use of my arms and hands, perhaps. With my out-of-control diabetes, eyesight problems and losing limbs are a real possibility.

But yesterday, and for hours today, I've been listening to the music that sustained me for almost four decades and I have found some joy. Sadness and nostalgia, too, regrets of not loving lovers past enough.

One day I might try television again.

I can't remember the last time I was actually happy and I don't really know what makes me happy. I've been content but happiness has eluded me.

Memories from 5 years ago. These also make me very sad at the same time. I miss my ex so much sometimes.

Being able to suck the marrow out of life and enjoy it's sustenance, which sustains me minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year. Happiness as the song says is not, "an illusion." It is the joy of a friendly nod, a warm smile, a babies cry, a pleasant hello, the phone call from a friend, the touch of a loved one and a passion for others. Therein lies my happiness my joy and passion to help those around me, strive for happiness; there is no greater joy than that.
This is the reason I volunteer at a homeless shelter, this is the reason I enjoy working retail and this is the reason I want to become a peer support and one day become a Psychologist. I love helping people become happy. I could be a comedian, but I am not an entertainer, I am a helper.
Thanks for this!

when I am hypo/manic I make a great deal of art. It really makes me happy. Not just the process of making it but the reaction

Things that never fail to put me in a good mood:
Solitude
Writing
Drawing
Reading (Mainly fiction, though I also enjoy reading about the human anatomy-especially the ear-and psychology. These are the topics I'm really interested in at the moment.)
Learning new things
The music of Franz Liszt
And the music of Chopin
And Tchaikovsky,
Oh, and Paganini!
Contemplating
And just being boring in general

This is going to sound ironic. For, as someone with intense social anxiety I am happiest when surrounded by people.

Yes, I must explain.

1. When I am with someone I closely know I feel protected. The ocassion must include going to events and social situations together. I couldn't possibly go someplace by myself even if it was to meet a friend.
2. I thrive in social situations of which I have control over it. ie. hosting a dinner party

This also. Especially my family.

My husband, his smile and his silly jokes.
My son, his silly humour, his hugs and kindness.
Autumn colours.
Running through muddy trail tracks in the rain.
Watching small children running and playing outdoors.
The smell of Christmas cake baking in the oven.
Coffee indoors while watching the rain track down the window.
Music.
Singing.

I needed to think about these things today and remember what is important. Thank you for posting this thread.
