Soft mattress, pillows and duvet, and white noise, preferably a fan. I struggle to sleep on a hard bed or with a blanket or just a cushion or ARRRRRRGHHH in silence. Dark and quiet helps too, but it depends on how tired and scared I am.

I've also used sleep sounds and depending, they sometimes help. Although I have to find sounds that don't have water sounds... I hate when sounds make me need to get up and pee...

A quiet calm-down session before I try and go to the bedroom to sleep (mostly involves watching recorded, carefully-chosen, non-upsetting TV shows).

A coolish room and complete darkness, with just the smallest nightlight off to the side.

Big, full, thick blankets.

All three pillows situated just right. I sleep on my side, and need to hug something to get to sleep.

And sometimes, my sound machine set to "steady rain", or "waves on the beach". This helps when there's lots of noise from outdoors.

A blanket. I can't sleep unless I am covered with a blanket.

I was quite fitful and fretful yesterday and aafter an hour of frustration I got up, found an essential oil, poured a drop on my pillow and went to bed. Fell right asleep.

I hadn't followed my usual routine last night. I watched tv immediately before climbing into bed

First off, I sleep best when I'm totally exhausted. I take NO other than the pain patch I'm on for the migraine pain that is continuous.

I also have a small down throw that I snuggle under all year no matter what temperature it is outside.

Love to have my dogs in bed with me so I know they aren't getting into trouble while I sleep & I like having the ceiling fan on. It stays on 24/7. I also keep the radio on a talk station 24/7. It was so quiet when I started living alone I needed sound though I like the peace & quiet also.

Sleep for me is a challenge as I'm awake every few hours unless I am so exhausted that I don't wake up at all for almost 8-10 hours....sleep seems to be an all or nothing thing with me though. Think it started after going through a trauma & I couldn't sleep for the nightmares & my pdoc at the time gave me 600mg of seroquel to knock me out which worked well considering at the time I only weighed 93 pounds. Living alone I can't stand to take any meds that make me groggy because I know if there were an emergency I would end up sleeping through it & being alone, that's NOT a good thing. If I have had struggles during the day, I am often plagued by nightmares of fighting against someone (usually H or parents) & struggling to get away though that never happened physically in real life it was an emotional battle I had for most of my life. Things are getting much better with that though. Sleep is definitely a challenge but needed because it does make a difference in my blood pressure readings...no sleep (high) sleep (much lower)

Need to have taken Xanax sometime during the day or I won't sleep.
Ambien
bottle of water on the nightstand
A clock, can't fall asleep if I don't know what time it is

And a white noise machine helps

I have to have a fan on low. If not, I get a roaring sound in my ears, like a semi truck idling that drives me insane. Also, I am a light sleeper and any little noise wakes me up so the fan drowns it out.

My routine has changed recently. It used to be meds with a temperate, silent, and dark room; I would go right to sleep. Now it includes ice packs for the pain, which is hard because I hate the cold and it keeps me awake. However once the pain subsides, then off the packs come, and then I can nod off most nights.
