on the subject of tv, they don't make children's shows like they used too.
back in the day, it was all saturday morning tv with a mix of educational stuff, compititions, cartoons and presenter interaction now you don't get that.. you just get either remakes of old classic shows, or new ones that flop after about 10 episodes |

Thank-you notes written by hand and sent in the mail.
Letting the kids play outside unsupervised. Saying "ma'am" and "sir," unless you're Southern or military. In all states but New Jersey, having a station attendant put the gas in your car. |

And how many of us had a set of pliers sitting on top of the TV to turn the broken/lost knob?

Landline handset modems.
Dialing into the BIG computer to see the cooler stuff that your houshold computer couldn't muster. Char's burger joints where you could get a dipped ice cream cone. Arcades in the back of department stores. A restaurant in the center of K-Mart stores. Revco drug stores. (Now CVS.) Family Dollar being the most popular discount chain. Cars having grills that were actually noticeable. Locked car doors that could be easily opened with a coat hanger. Metal trash cans. Playing in the creek during the summer with your friends. (Now there are pools everywhere.) Kids playing in toy departments while their parents shopped. (Try that now and some sicko will abduct you.) Handicapped people parking in handicapped spaces. Car shows and cruising the boulevard on the weekends. Chicken Fajitas at Taco-Bell. Cigarette machines. Narrow skateboards. TV dinners in tin pans. RadioShack and Sears having the coolest toys at Christmas. Paper job applications. |

phone in compititions with actual questions.
you used to be able to phone in, give the answer, and enter the compitition now, it's more like "text your name, address, and the word win" to such and such a number I miss those days, I loved entering question compititions |

I used to manage a tape library for a business. I loaded tapes, threaded them, and sent the computer a command to write everything to tape. Once in a while, I would make a mistake and snap a tape.
I also had to read the chicken scratch everyone around the company wrote on invoices and entered it into the computer. There is a job that doesn’t exist anymore. |

I also used to fill out these big green ledger sheets of paper and added up the columns on an adding machine.
Because none of us had computers yet! Only the secretaries had the computers, and they would type things for us. Then we all had to share two computers when they rolled them out. That was two computers for 30 of us. Well, my supervisor got one to himself, but he didn’t know what to do with it, so he put up a fish tank screen saver. The cool thing is we would get memos from Ronald Reagan (I worked for the federal government). Obviously it was a copy. He signed his memos with some sort of thick marker with very legible cursive writing. |

All the little free things we used to get, such as ceramic figurines in a box of tea. Or the little toy you would get in a box of cereal.
Most homes had a large atlas and/or a globe. And all cars had a collection of fold out maps, and a coil bound map book of your area for street addresses. When you ordered a cup of tea or coffee, you always got a saucer with the cup. And the minute you sat down the server poured ice cold glasses of water from a pitcher for everyone. Usually the cup and saucer was already on the table, you only needed to turn your cup over to indicate you'd like a coffee. |

The library as only a book lending service. It's as much a community space for various activities and technologies as anything else. Probably WiFi and smartphones that forced the change.

Milk deliveries to your home.
Real bumpers on cars that could take a bit of an impact without it causing thousands of dollars in damage to your car. Lots of chrome on cars which I really love. Drive in movie theaters. Mom and pop corner stores real old fashion bakeries are become a thing of the past. Pinball machines which I still love and must be boring to the kids of today.
