Kit and Caboodle, as in "The whole kit and caboodle"

Also, "You got it Pontiac" ...I think this was from the car ads, if I remember correctly.

The whole nine yards, which incidentally, came from air force men in WWII--the belt that fed the 20mm cannons on planes was nine yards long, so when they would fire all the rounds into a plane, they would call it giving them the whole nine yards.

Cheaters - referring to eye glasses (and sometimes for those hiding behind sunglasses).

I've also known these electric outlet adapters to be called "cheaters." It was thought to be a fire hazard, because then you'd have too many things plugged in to one outlet, but I was in high school at the time. Technology might have changed since then.

I think that the onset of building codes, marked the beginning of the end for homes that only had a couple of electrical sockets, the wiring behind which really wasn't designed to handle the current of much more than a single small device. I can actually remember those adapters that you'd plug into a light fitting before the bulb, to run an extension off...

Hoity-toity, happy-go-lucky, cursed a blue streak, consarnit, come hither, defenestration, deep-sixed (as in, my car wouldn't start, so I deep-sixed it for the insurance money--lol), zounds (which actually means, Christ's Wounds), quoth-ing anything, hotter than blue blazes, fit to be tied, scram, metrosexual (okay, that one's still used, but really shouldn't be, so please, for the sake of the English language, just stop--lol), and last but not least...

One of these days--one of these days! *shakes fist* Bang! Zoom! Right to the moon, Alice!

The Three Stooges started a catch phrase, "Why, I oughta....."

Say it nowadays, and watch people look at you like you're from outer space.

The word "applesauce" to mean nonsense, garbage, or BS.

Something good is "the bee's knees" or "the cat's pajamas."

The word "tough" to mean "good." I used to hear it a lot in the mid-1970's. "I like your shoes, man! They're tough!"

That a teenage girl or unmarried woman is "in trouble." Since there's no shame in it anymore, people just say "pregnant."
