First off, to our friends threatened by Florence. My thoughts are with you. Please be safe. If you are in an evacuation zone, please get out! It looks like it's going to be a really bad one.
 Today marks one year since Irma came plowing up the middle of my state. I am still angry about the way my employer treated all of us after the storm. For an agency whose mission is to help people they showed a HUGE lack of compassion toward employees. When we were ordered back to work I didn't even know if I still had a home to return to. Then there's Issac out in the Atlantic, threatening poor Puerto Rico. And I just saw there is a disturbance in the Gulf that might build into a hurricane. This is the peak of the season. I know that Still... feeling overwhelmed by it all.. |

I have learned that natural disasters can turn life upside down, inside out. I am so, so sorry that your employer was insensitive. Wow! That is truly messed up.

My wife and I had a rental home in Nags Head. Long, long drive but terrific beach, beer and crabs.
House is long gone. When a hurricane threatens the Outer Banks I think of the many times we would stay... just ‘ride it out.’ My wife and I (and her entire family) were idiots. Be safe.

We always seem to get the left over rain....i always think if it is this bad after the fact how bad it has to be going through it.
Be safe & evacuate if they call for it in your area. I see how the weather reporting exagerstes winter storms in my area but they don't exagerate the severity of hurricanes.

I saw a headline this week that 1 in 5 people in Florida would not evacuate if a Cat 4 storm was headed this way. Part of me was surprised the number was that low. But my first thought was that they all must be recent Yankee transplants.
I don't live anywhere near where Andrew slammed the state back in '91, but seeing the aftermath was enough to convince me to get the heck out of Dodge if a storm heads my way. I live in the center of the X created by the storms in 2004. I saw first hand the devastation those storms caused. I ended up having to replace my own house due to damage. I laugh now that I will lead the parade out of town if a storm heads this way. |
