Hey everyone & happy birthday Literary Lark 😁 it is today isn't it?

I shall bring some gingerbread men to decorate after dinner when we're all full. Decorating them is fun even if you don't like gingerbread!

Cool! I'll put that on the activity list. Would you mind heading it up? Maybe pass out the "bare" men and then tell people what they can use to decorate the gingerbread them? Afterwards, people can tell what they did ("show and tell" ).

Only two more days to the Eastern-Hemisphere's Christmas--so join in here on the 24th and then on the 25th, too, if you would like.

How about one more tree? A great big one in the center of the room. Each person could bring their favorite ornament to hang on it. Then tell the "story" of the ornament. Every ornament on my tree has a story.

We'll miss you, liz! Yes, a big tree in the middle and everyone can bring their favorite ornament. Let's see. I'll bring a little red fire truck like I had as a child. Maybe folks can announce themselves and tell what ornament they brought, if they would like and hang it on the tree!

Oh, change of mind. Let's have our big feast available all day and pretend nothing will get cold or warm or go bad.
Thanks for this!

Well I made some cookies....they aren't Christmas cookies but I'll bring them to share just the same. Made peppermint sugar cookies and double chocolate dipped in powered sugar.

I'll add them to our menu. Yum!

How about this for a suggested plan: Folks can come in and if they brought a pet, introduce it. And if they brought an ornament for the middle tree, then they can tell about it. And they can go to get some food, play some games, and chat.
Thanks for this!

I might be here tomorrow after all. My friend's cat is sick. She might need to cancel or reschedule her visit.

I have some gingerbread person cookies and some spritz (shaped butter cookies). People seem to like the cookies. Every year, starting around Thanksgiving people ask if I am going to make them this year. It's a lot of work and tiring, but a pleasure to see people enjoy them.

Christmas baking has become a tradition for me. I started when I was a broke college student working to put myself through school. I didn't have money to buy all the people I wanted to give gifts a store bought present. I baked up a storm. People liked it so much I did it again the next year. It became a Christmas tradition. Over the years I've trimmed back. I used to make all kinds of cookies, even made hot cross buns one year. Now, I only bake for those who appreciate it and only make gingerbread and spritz. (snide side story - one year, my future sister-in-law, who is a bit of a stuck up B, told me I only made cookies because I was too cheap to buy presents. I was so shocked and hurt I didn't know what to say. But I thought to myself she'd never get another dam cookie from me and stuck to it.)

Sorry, got off on a tangent there. I hope y'all enjoy the cookies!

A co-worker told me about a Christmas tradition I never heard of before, but explains something my neighbors do.

Many of my neighbors are Hispanic, for the most part Mexican. I didn't understand why they party hardy on Christmas Eve and are quiet on Christmas. My co-worker, who is of Mexican descent, told me that it is traditional to party on Christmas Eve to sing the baby Jesus to sleep. (I don't know how salsa music blared at top volume until 1 AM is supposed to lull the baby to sleep, but that's what she told me.) Then the family spends a quiet day together on Christmas celebrating it as a religious day. So I learned something new this year.

I 'm with you on how could the salsa music lull anyone to sleep?.....but it sure makes me want to dance.

I grew up in an all american neighborhood. Mexican american, Jewish & every mix in between. Most if their salsa music was actually saved for new years eve & wow did they party hardy then.

I saw I photo on FB....wish I could find it. It was a frosted Christmas cookie with a paw print in the icing. I commented that it was the doggie version of thumb print cookies.

I love Christmas cookies. Maybe I will feel more like baking AFTER Christmas

I'll be around for a couple hours then I gotta go socialize IRL. So I brought my favorite ornament to hang. It's a planet view of earth. The seas are deep blue the contents a deep green than the clouds white to light blue, it's pretty big at about ten inches around. But so pretty and reminds me we're not alone.

I brought Rocket our second hamster out for festivities. He's running around with great excitement.

Sir, remember this is the time for peace on earth and goodwill toward all. Be nice to Rocket. In the spirit of the holiday I am spraying a "get along with each other" mist around the room. All critters (including human critters) will get along with each other.

I'm hanging my ornament tonight. It was hard to choose, but I picked one I've had since I was a kid. As a kid I thought it was a duck. It's actually a dove! Heaven know why I thought it was a duck. Also can't explain why it was my favorite as a kid, but it was. I used to create all sorts of stories about it in my head as a kid.
