Hey everyone!

So, I had an interview yesterday, and I am constantly checking my email and phone to hear back from them. I REALLY want this job because this will be my opportunity to come off of disability, get out on my own, and finally take charge of my life and start living! I am scared yes, because this bipolar illness is such a monster that comes back and throws me in the hospital and destroys my life every few years, but if I don't take a stand now, I will never be fully okay and feel independent, which I DESPERATELY want.

Anyway, I am going kinda crazy here waiting to hear back, so I am wondering:

Can you guys recommend a game, forum, chat board, app, or something that keeps your mind occupied?? I am not opposed to arts and crafts either, I just might need to get supplies. It's hard to sit down and read too because my mind keeps wandering, I need something I can be interactive with.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Good luck with the job!

Here's a link to an article, from PC's archives, that talks about using crafts to "interrupt" rumination. Perhaps there are some suggestions in this article that can help:

Crafting to Interrupt Rumination in Depression, Anxiety, and PTSD

Thanks so much for your support Skeezyks! I REALLY hope I get this job - I am in such anguish over the waiting process. I am feeling anxiety that I don't normally feel!

The article was fantastic. I think I am going to spend a few days making a birthday card for my best friend. I am going to handmake it and take my time, it should get my mind off things. Thanks for giving me the great idea!

Coloring is fun for when I need a distraction.

Journaling is helpful cause it sorts my thoughts and gets emotions out

There are also a lot of cool D.I.Y projects on Pinterest

Thanks so much BlueBird!!

I am thinking about writing out a blog post, (almost like journaling).

I have some markers so I might do some detailed coloring, it may be really helpful.

I need to get that Pokémon game though!

I mostly hang out at PC and troll the tv channels avoiding commercials.

That's what I do mostly! I troll the channels, flipping like crazy to avoid commercials. I go through batteries like crazy!

I am thinking of buying Stardew Valley and getting into some crafts. It will be a nice distraction for a while.

game wise, the only one that comes to mind is alter ego

it's a life simulation game where you get choices which, when you respond, depends on how your life plays out

you play from birth to death, and after each life stage (their's 7) you get a little mini report about what your choices show

I've still not completed it

I actually have an Alexa and I have played her Song Quiz, (I dominated the 90s category!), and I have had fun talking to her A.I. - All you have to do is say "Alexa, let's chat" and you'll be connected with one of her social bots, and its VERY interesting and fascinating to talk to her.

Alter Ego sounds like the Sims Game that I have which I have been meaning to start again. I think they are loads of fun.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Art!

I do a lot of art - lately alcohol ink art and multi-media assemblage. Not only do these things distract me but they are very therapeutic.

You can play with your makeup, but don't create your usual looks. Play with colors, make unusual looks or vfx if possible.

If you're not into that, you can try playing with small and cheap musical instruments like harmonica or flute.

If you don't mind studying, try to learn new language. There's an app called Duolingo and it's a good app to learn from 0.
Thanks for this!

This may sound childish, but I find coloring in coloring books relaxes me and calms me down. You can get adult coloring books now.

Zentangle art is really fun and relaxing, I second this suggestion, I just started doing it the other day and it's a nice way to be distracted plus a cool form of art

Someone here mentioned duolingo, I also recommend it if you're ever interested in learning a new language. It's a free, fun way to learn and you go at your own pace

Another site is Khan Academy which is also free, you just make an account and can learn about a wide array of subjects at your own pace

Hey guys, thanks for all the great ideas! I didn't get the job I was agonizing over, (BOO!), but I am being proactive about it and not letting it get me down. Zentangle art is REALLY cool, and I am looking into the Khan Academy to learn about Science. It's really cool too.

Also, I like the game "Township" that has been really fun and keeping me distracted. It's like Farmville but not so restricting. It's very well paced too so you can relax and do bits and pieces at a time.

@raging vortex Do you think you can share what Alexa games you like to play? I would love to play some others. The 90s category Song Quiz is really a lot of fun and I have accumulated a good amount of points so far.

the games I like on alexa are:

volley trivia showdown (a true or false game you play with other alexa users)

volley daily trivia (like showdown, but daily, and you play by yourself)

question of the day and today's question (what they say on the tin, daily questions to test your skills)

harry potter quiz (play to win points for your house)

wizard of oz (interactive game based on the book)

what's my name (fun guessing game with alexa, with lots of categories to choose from)

acunator (let alexa read your mind)

merlin's quest (short fun quest)

magic door (random outcomes depending on the path you choose)

probably others

but these are my absolute must plays every day

Thanks so much raging vortex!

I will definitely have to try them out. So far Song Quiz is the only one I really like.

Did you ever try the Vocabulary word game where you make words based on the last letter of her response? You should try it out, it's really cool!
