They lied and said they cloned a human? It was back in the very early 2000's in France or someplace. I don't remember much I just remember some lady walking quickly and saying something then walking off quickly.

Then it turned out to be a hoax

Idk. I'm bored right now and just thinking of dumb **** I don't fully remember.

Dont remember. I do remember reading or seeing a lot of interesting human clone fiction - thereis always some terrible fatal flaw.

No. Don’t recall. Same as Unaluna I know some fiction.

Never let me go. By Kazuo Ishiguro. It’s probably the saddest book I’ve ever read. His books are all sad but this one just kind of broke my heart and terrified me. I thought that If they cloned humans, that’s exactly what would happen. There was a movie too but I did not see it. Book was enough

I watched that movie, Divine. It was creepy but good at the same time.

Not long after that, my husband and I watched this German movie called Paradise. The them is sort of similar. In that case people can sell years of their life to someone else if they are in a situation where they need money.

I googled it and It happened back in 2002. Some company claimed to have cloned a baby named Eve. It was just a hoax and Eve never showed up. I didnt read the whole article as to why they did it. Just that cults and stuff were involved.

Surely by now the tech it takes to clone a human exists does it not? I've not looked into it much but they've cloned many vertebrates already. There's a whole list now with Dolly the sheep apparently being the first. I remember that event. It was way back in '96. The science must have come a long way since then. Somebody may have cloned a human by now but if that has happened it's being kept under tight wraps. The ethics involved would likely disturb too many folks on too many levels. Religious and sociological issues would be foremost I guess.

Personally I think the tech to clone a human likely exists. That said I also doubt the sci-fi 'clone' horrors of fiction will ever be a reality. Some of the population tend to have over-ripe imaginations on a lot of topics but that's probably just part of us being human. JMO [just my opinion]

I doubt people think that whatever happens in sci-fI books and movies will be a reality. I don’t know anyone who thinks that. Cloning or anything else. That’s fiction. I don’t think there is a concern about people having over-ripe imagination. People enjoy fiction about all kind of stuff and for all kind of reasons without assuming it’s about to come alive!. That’s a nature of fiction.

Yes technology for it likely exists. But there’s no massive cloning of humans taking place.

Divine, I'm just out of bed and haven't got two functional brain cells yet to provide examples. BUT our lives are full of things inspired by science fiction. SF author Robert Heinlien wrote an excellent essay about it.

My brain is starting to function. Came up with a few examples...

Heinlein himself provided the idea for a watered.

Cell phones are the communicators from Star Trek.

Oh I absolutely agree. Very good points. My reply was mainly in regards to “people having ripe imagination thinking that everything we read will come true”. No one is that gullible (unless of course we are talking about believers in conspiracies).

But yes of course lots of stuff someone dreamed about did become real

In my hazy remembering of school science, isnt that parthenogenesis, where females reproduce without male "input"? I think the fatal flaw is that weaknesses get emphasized, as in the marrying of close relatives, rather than diversified out.

If you take a closer honest look around at our fellow humans you'll find an inordinate amount truly believing in some pretty far out belfry guano. Where yuh been?

My point is not just to do with the conspiracy mindset but in the proliferation of alternative facts on a very broad spectrum. A HUGE problem in our times. Social scientists and others who study human behaviors are quite alarmed and rightfully so. Data/info on those concerns isn't difficult to find. It's a pretty big topic these days.
