help me think of ideas!

I am doing the Polar Plunge on Sunday to raise money for Special Olympics (and because it will make for another in my ongoing series of stories about learning to cope with winter this far north) and I have no clue what to wear! I hear a lot of people do costumes, which I am not averse to doing. It's being broadcast live on local TV and one of our photographers will be out there, so if I'm going to get caught on film looking stupid, I want to do it in style.

Any ideas for something clever/cute, pass them on! And thank you to my PC buddies who have given me pledges! If anybody else is interested, PM and I'll send you the link to my page.

OMG wantto, I am having flashbacks to a sailor suit my mom bought and forced me to wear in about 6th grade. Maybe I'll jump in with the parasol, though.

I wish I still had my bear mask! For Halloween one year I had the greatest bear mask, looked like somebody ripped the face off a stuffed animal. I scared the poop out of a little boy (not more than 2-3y/o) and he took off running down the driveway and his mom had to take his candy for him!

I hope I didn't scar the poor kid for life, but it was pretty funny seeing the look of horror on his face even after his mom told him I was a NICE bear.

Angie, I'm pretty sure I'll be wearing icicles after getting out of the water, like it or not!

Oooh wouldnt it be cool if you had a mermaid type costume? Would be pretty darn revealing thogh i think on the top - how about fasioning some kind of tail though?

I'd make a frame and cover it with clear plastic and go as an ice cube? (or mirrored so you didn't have to worry about what to wear underneath) or ice berg (white, triangular sort of shape?) Cover yourself with those plastic ice cubes you freeze that don't melt so you don't dilute your drink?

How bout a tuxedo or penguin type thingy >>> Then you can cover your exposed areas with axle grease and repel some of that OH So COOOOOOOOOLD Water . hehe. .

Just don't put any on your hands and feet ,,,, Might end up in water longer than you wanted .....

My big sister had a cap like that and we use to kill ourselves laughing when mum made her wear it!!!!!! She did swimming galas and everyone else had plain sorta spedo caps and my sister had one with flowers hanging of it!!!!

I'd be tempted to visit a bunch of thrift stores and find a cheap fuzzy white coat and all white other stuff (tights) and go as a polar bear.

Well, I gave up on the costume idea and just went for colorful. Right now the plan is: my pink work polo (has the paper's name on it, figure I might as well get in a plug), bright purple wind pants and purple socks, and bright pink flip-flops (they make you wear some form of shoes). I think I will top it off with my Brewers cap.

It starts at noon and I am scheduled to go at 1:20 -- maybe by then the temp will have risen to above zero.

The wind chill at the noon start is predicted to be .... -29.

Right now the temp here is -8 and I have no idea what the wind chill is.

Sooooo, I went and bought all this stuff for nothing -- tomorrow I will go get my money back, LOL. They are only going to let us immerse a body part -- arm, toes, etc -- not go all the way in. It's going to make for a much crappier story! Oh well -- I made several hundred bucks for Special Olympics, and that was really the point.

i didnt read what the other people suggested or what you responded with, but before my computer just froze right now,
i wanted to tell you this...

i think that you should just pretty yourself up and wear something tasteful like what you would if you were personally representing one of your OWN "special" kid if you had one.
id strongly suggest against using costumes and such because that would only be making fun of the event by bringing amusement into it. and to wear a costume would suggest that you are ashamed to help the special olympics. there is nothing funny about a disability.
i think it should be RESPECTFUL and not AMUSING.
