Actually, badgers spend the winter in CAVES, smart critters that they are!

I wussed out of the Polar Plunge and only stuck my arms in up to the elbow. They had to crack a hole in the ice even for that, and at 1:20 or so when I went, the temperature -- never mind the wind chill -- was -7 F. So they weren't letting people do anything but poke in a body part.

Some fools stuck their faces in it, which strikes me as cheaper and less risky than Botox. My name's Friday. I carry a badger. ;-) I was warned not to wear anything with zippers or buttons, because my hands would cease to work for several minutes following, and that actually turned out to be the case.

I will post pix when they are available in a day or two. Our nightside reporter (who usually works 2-10:30 pm Sunday - Thursday) was out there -- I didn't notice if he had a camera, but I know the organization takes pix of everyone in their moment of glory to post on their website.

Thanks for all the well wishes and special thanks to those who pledged some bucks for Special Olympics. I do believe, however, this will be the LAST in my series of articles in how to cope with intense winters. I'm going back to my cave like a good badger-bear and I'm not coming out till it's 70! My name's Friday. I carry a badger. ;-)

I've always thought that people who took part in polar bear dips were either incredibly brave or incredibly nuts. Sounds like your''s was particularly cold. Glad you survived it, and glad the organizers were sensible about how much they'd let people submerge.

Now go drink something nice and hot, like a hot chocolate with marshmallows on top and hibernate till spring with the rest of us.
