AMEN!!!!

I don't have a cellphone, never have...never will.

This mass communication is becoming ridiculous, really...what is so important that you have to constantly talk...constantly, all the time, every damn where...no matter what you're doing.

I was watching some jib jab video about 2007 and how one day cell phones will cause brain tumors and such...hopefully their popularity is temporary...*crosses fingers*

I imagine if I had a cellphone my mother would call em 30 times a day....uh, hell no, no thanks.

A friend of mine told me that they built a cell tower over an appartment building or some sort of builiding and mysteriously everyone on the top floor ended up with some sort of cancer. I dont know how true that is, but i wouldnt doubt it.

I don't hate cell phones, I hate that people use them while they're driving. I don't think I'd be able to keep track of everyone without them. My daughter has about a 4 hour drive back to college, I feel much better knowing that she has a phone in case of emergencies.

I must admit I'm irritated by people in a public places screaming on their phones.

I especially hate when people are shopping, come up to the register and continue talking on their phones. I have to wait to talk to them, tell them their total and wait to tell them their change. I've started to get annoyed though...so now I just talk over them and not care anymore...why should I have to yield to your rudeness????

So, people...if you're a cellphone talker please respect your cashiers.

I did a lot of research on the cancer thing and found that the rumors were false. I did this long before we had one. I hope they continue to be false.

p.s. my brother-in-law (who is a cop) said that hands free isn't any better besides the fact that its not using a hand. it still takes your attention away from the road and thats the danger, not holding a cell phone.

its just one of those things where were all going to get punished for the few that are stupid enough to do things like texting while driving. if i text while driving its at a stop light when im not moving. or if i am dialing, its when im stopped. we should instate germany's rules lol. kids can drink when theyre 16 but cant get even get their temps until theyre 18 i think. plus they take your license away after 3 dui's period. here you have to get like 3 dui's in 3 years to get it taken away.

Most people must realize that these people we see talking on the phone while driving most likely don't like the idea anymore than we do. If a call comes from somebody important, you must answer it. It could be the loss of a job if the calls are ignored, no matter how honourable the driver's intentions. People who drive in multiple lane freeways can't easily just pull over when the phone rings.

We all acknowledge that it is not safe to use it while driving...but many times, it is actually necessary. A call to work or a client, a call to inform someboyd you are lost. Sometimes, these things can be done off the road side, but not always. I don't drive so I don't have that challenge in my life. Heck, I don't have enough of a social life to validate ahving a phone sometimes lol. But, if I am waiting on an important call that deals with an urgent issue, I will pick up no matter where I am. If that means offending a cashier, or the driver in the next car, or a waiter in a restaurant, sometiems my calls are important and they will have to wait. I am not on this planet to serve them.

I have worked in restaurants, grocery stores and customer service desks for 12 - 15 years. The reason that person picks up the phone while we chat, is their business not mine. I might be annoyed but c'est la vie....customer comes first.

ouch salukigirl that really hurts being called stupid. you cant just blame the people who chat on the phone or txt while driving tho, what about those people who light their ciggarettes while driving? or who play with the radio? or who are too busy in an argument with their passenger to pay attention to the road? My mother was rear ended with me and my two brothers in the backseat when i was little by some woman having an argument with her passenger. what about people driving who are thinking about something completely different than driving? How many people really drive down the road paying complete and absolute attention to what they are doing? i bet 99% of people on the roads are thinking about the weekend or what happened earlier in the day, maybe they are thinking about suprising their wives or husbands or visiting their parents or something completely random. Should it be illegal to allow your minds to wander while driving?

p.s. when i txt and drive i stay within my lane.

That is an excellent point, Hyper. The cellphone is not the only distraction...in addition to what you mentioned, how about mp3 and CD players? People listen to those while driving, even radios turned up loudly. Music is also a distraction because it takes our hearing attention away from sounds that might alert us of dangers. Are we going to ban music in the vehicles?

apparently AAAAA does. I know I don't but I guess I'm just good at splitting my attention and some people aren't. dialing is one thing but typing an entire message? any time i try to do that without looking i end up making so many typos that i jsut gave up haha. im still sticking with banning stupid people. thats why i think everyone should have to pass their test while having those distractions.

lighting a cigarette isn't too bad when youre driving. it only takes a second and its right in front of your face. its the holding it and flicking the ash/cherry out the window thats the problem. go look at my old ford escort with all the burn holes in it lol.

are some people just accident prone? it seems like some people can do the stupidest things in the world and nothing happens to them but other people get into accidents (not just vehicle) all the time while doing everything right. luckily i seem to be the person that is the opposite. the closest ive ever come to being in an accident was in west carrollton, oh on lyons road and alex haha. this truck ran a red light because it was snowing and he couldn't stop. well the 2 cars in front of me and myself all spun out and luckily i thought quick enough to pull on my e-break so i turned instead of slamming into the guy in front of me. and you know what... the guy in the truck didnt even stop to see if everyone was okay. 3 car wreck and he just kept driving when it was his fault. the things people do for mcdonald's (yes i was on a mcd's run lol).

I live in AZ and there was recently a law passed that makes texting while driving against the law. They're considering a similar law to make talking on the phone while driving against the law for young drivers. I RARELY answer my phone while driving. I'm thinking of getting a new plan... I have T-Mobile, and can't get good service. Plus my fiance is paying TONS for his phone as well as his dad and sister... which drives me up the wall. GRR we can't afford to pay for 4 cell phones! I'm thinking of getting the LG Chocolate.

Perhaps we could just lock up the ones who are talking on the phone, or wait, we could lock up the ones who look like they are talking on the phone. Or maybe if they just open their mouths like they might at some point look like they are going to talk on the phone at some point in their driving time.

I think we should just ban people from driving. Or maybe just ban people altogether.

salukigirl lighting a cigarrette might only take a second, but so does an accident.
According to the psych teacher i had in college, red cars get in more accidents than any other color of vehicle. something to do with the color relating to anger? I havent been in an accident yet as a driver, however iv had a lot of close calls, a lot of which would have been the other drivers fault, and no i was not talking on the phone or txting anyone during any of these occasions. and yes my car is red lol for awhile when i first started driving i was beginning to wonder if people liked to try to run my car over.

Hyper1,

The red car thing is true according to our insurance agents, but here (and probably there too) white cars are more likely to get into accidents; hard to see white cars in a blizzard.

Any distraction can cause a major accident. A few years ago three kids that had just graduated from high school decided to take a road trip. The driver was changing a CD and somehow crashed into a chip delivery truck.

Maybe I'm unique, but if the roads are bad or traffic is heavy, there is no radio and no talking in the car when I'm driving. Just my rules and the way its always been.

There is a three way stop sign right outside the high school here. And every day when I bring my son to school, there's a teenager that goes right through the stop sign with a cell phone to their ear. It's gotten so bad that the police sit there in the mornings at least twice a week.

We have had plenty of near misses by drivers who either pulled out in front of us, ran stoplights, weaved back and forth across lanes of traffic or stopped suddenly in the road just to answer a cell phone call. This only makes the watching out for normally bad drivers worse. In some instances yes, you need to answer the phone, but one can aways choose to let them leave a message or tell them you will call back after you have parked the car.
The same thing is true when your cell rings in a resturant. I have sat through entire dinners where someone was talking loudly on a cell, not caring they were distrubing everyone around them. Go outside or to the waiting area. Let them who are calling leave you a message.
I have a cell, but I use it for emergencies or if stuck somewhere's and need a ride or to call a friend, but I don't use it in the car, nor in church or resturants. I try to be repectful of others both on and off the road.

AAAAA said that they drive with their hands at 10 and 2, don't bother with the radio, eating or anything else.

the problem isn't with cell phones. its the people. the same people who are careless enough to let that effect their driving that bad are the same people who talk extremely loud on their phones in restaurants. theyre not aware of people around them and they don't really care.

people who are careless, arent going to be any less careless driving with no distractions. then theyll probably just fall asleep at the wheel. im telling you its just that kind of person. ive had just as many (if not more) almost wrecks from people not talking on their cell phones. some people are just plain dumb and just don't care about the people around them. i want to smack the people in kroger who are walking with their carts and just stop. in the middle of the aisle... don't notice the line of people behind them.... dont see that they could easily pull their cart over.... its those kinds of people who are the idiots driving too. theyre just totally unaware of their surroundings.

lol. This topic kills me.

Allow me to stand up and say as a busy professional I absolutely love my cell phone. Love it!

I do recommend hands free devices for driving.

Yay cell phones!

Have one. Hardly use it. Hardly ever. Love it for the camera feature though.

A lady almost ran a MAJOR intersection red light last weekend. She would have hit my Honda Civic on the passengers side at about 45 miles an hour. She totally missed that red light. Talking on the cell phone.

I think hands free devices are great but I also think that some people can't handle it. And if you can't you need to know when to say when.
