Thanks to a crappy piece of ...I won't mention the brand name, I am now without a microwave until I don't know when.

I don't use my microwave to cook, just warm up things. Like my husbands raspberry danish for breakfast, my kids.......everything, and my coffee...I want my coffee warmed up Life before Microwaves?

Think we had our first microwave in the 70s??? What piece of technology would you care NOT to remember how life was without it??

I honestly don't know how well I would survive without a microwave. My cooking skills are extremely limted...scrambled eggs and noodles that is all I am able to cook without destroying cooking ware or setting off smoke detectors..so to live without a microwave would mean starvation..or me being broke all the time. My parents do most of the cooking but since during the summer I'm off schedule from them..I work nights and they work and go to school during the day I depend on thay microwave!!
I don't know how you warm kids up in a microwave but that sounds interesting!! LOL

I choose not to remember life without the Internet -- not having it made my job 100,000,000,000 times harder!

That said, I know there's a trend back toward vinyl, but I'd rather not go back to record turntables vs. CD players (or better yet, MP3s!). Records warped, scratched, and were in general a PITA. Life before Microwaves?

I *would*, however, like to get rid of cell phones. It sucks being available to my editor 24/7! Life before Microwaves?

Honestly, I can't think of what I'd do without a Microwave, being born in the 80's I've always had one... Actually I have a spare microwave sitting in my garage, that I cant GIVE away!!! I'd let you have it... although I'm sure shipping costs would be outrageous!

Oh yes Candy, I've been on the internet myself since the early - mid 90s. I think its a great educational tool for my kids too. They ask me what something means, how to spell something, and I happily say "Go look it up on the computer". Certainly, it would be much easier (for them) for Mom to blurt out the answer, but I think the research does a world of good for them!

Thanks Spaz, how kind of you. We are probably 3000 miles away from each other (I'm on the East Coast).

Sigh......better drink the coffee while its warm

My microwave, for me, is an expensive popcorn popper. My husband uses it to cook bacon and other breakfast meats and I guess since my kitchen is so small it comes in handy when trying to make multi-dish meals.

I hate the microwaves in sub shops and "restaurants" of that ilk. Nothing makes me angrier than getting a "hot" piece of pizza that I can't eat for 5-10 minutes. Don't give me food that can injure me! I didn't feel bad about the McDonald's coffee-in-the-lap incident, it wasn't funny to me.

I guess I wouldn't want to do without the Internet; I could do without computers (I could do with paper and pencil :-) but I wouldn't want to give up my research and communication abilities.

I still have my original microwave bought 2'nd hand for $50 back in 1991. It's huge in comparison to todays microwaves and is a really heavy beast. But it works great and i can't imagine life without it.

Yeah, that was the tail end of the time when they still made things to last. Each of my last 2 microwaves has only lasted two years. Life before Microwaves? My current TV is on the fritz and it's 4 years old! My parents bought one from Sears in 1973 and it worked like a charm up to the day my mom sold it along with the house in 2001. (That is NOT a typo nor an exaggeration!) Never had a minute's problem with it.

I'm not a fan of the microwave. My husband and I did not have a microwave for the first couple of years we lived together because we chose not to have one. Now we have one because it came mounted above the stove when we bought this house. I use it occasionally for warming stuff up, but I would never cook anything in it. It comes out like disgusting crap, in my opinion.

The electronic device I could never live without?
My ipod.

I would first throw the TV and the microwave out the window before giving up my ipod.

I agree Pink. I never cook anything in mine either, mostly a convenience for warming up coffee and the kids munchies.

I wouldn't live without my washer and dryer. I know you said kitchen appliances but those are what I couldn't live without.

In my last apartment I didn't have them and had to do laundry at my parents and that was a pain so when I moved here I was thankful to see my washer and dryer.

Ok, my wife calls me a technology ***** (in the nicest way possible) but here's Cyran0's official list of things I can't live without (not including the various AV devices and software I use in my work)...

Microwave
Laptop computer
Cars
Cell phones (homage to another thread)
Washer and dryer
Indoor plumming
16:9 tvs
Broadband
DVD video or better
Portable digital voice recorder
Rice cooker/vegetable steamer (handy, handy, handy)
Hot shot hot water dispenser ($10 at Target)
Dishwasher
Stereo audio or better
MP3 players
Wireless networks
Central air
Forced air heating
Dust busters (or similar small vacuum)
Vacuum cleaners
Email

And probably a zillion other things that didn't pop into my head. I can't live without any of this stuff.

Now I'm glad we never had a microwave growing up - before I came to university I'd only ever used one once or twice in home economics lessons at school, so I can function fine without one. Life before Microwaves? It does make life a lot easier, but I still don't think mum's convinced, so I doubt we'll be having one at home in the near future. Hope yours gets fixed soon! Life before Microwaves?

As for technology I couldn't live without...it'd have to be my computer. Or my alarm clock. Life before Microwaves?
