i know that some people think that animals aren't as close as family members, but my horse was my family. She was my best friend. Even up to the last second, she trusted me. I'd give anything to bring her back. I'm falling apart. She was my world. It was so horrible. I had to have the vet put her down because she slipped in the snow about a month ago. At first it was a fracture, but from laying down and getting up so much, it broke. I've never seen a horse be put down, but they take a deep breath and fall over. I never wanna see it again. I miss her :'(

I'm SO sorry for your loss. ![]() I understand that animals become part of our family. My biggest dread is when this time comes for my horse who has been my 'baby' for the past 12 yrs. You did the kindest thing you could and you were there for her at the end and she would have known that, you didn't betray her trust, you fulfilled it by doing what you needed to. Do you want to tell us something about her? Splitz. |

I'm so sorry you lost a member of your family.
![]() I've always regarded the animals in my life as my family and sounds like you do also. I like to think that all animals are angels(I'm so NOT religious-- but I do believe in animal angels)-- they are here to make friends and to see just which humans are loving and which ones are not. this is what I believe(may sound a bit "out there" but I think it's true): The loving human's life aura gets brighter and brighter with each animal that loves them. I bet your life aura is VERY bright. You've been a great friend and family member to a special angel - she was so lucky to have you. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hello Rissie,I'm extremely sorry to hear about your horse. I had a golden retriever named Ginger, and she lived to be 15 years old. I'm in a wheelchair and I used to take her for walks while she was attached by a short leash to the side of my chair. She would walk right next to my chair, and we would walk for miles. She really love to do this. She was a constant companion. It got to the point where she couldn't hear or see very well and she lost the use of her rear legs. We had to put her to sleep and I know the heartbreak that you feel. It was so peaceful yet extremely sad watching Ginger take her last breath. We had her cremated and have her ashes in a nice walnut box with her name on it. Fortunately we have a puppy from Ginger. She's not Ginger by any means, she has an entirely different personality. I wish you the best and hope that some day he will find another horse that you could love.

thank you all so much. it really means alot that you all understand that she was my family. as a reply to lynn P. i wanted to tell you about us. when my dad drank heavily(more than he does now) i used to sneak out to the barn around 3am or so and talk to her and cry next to her. i even slept in her stall a few times. she was the best therapy ever. she would lie down next to me and rest her head on me. ive ridden a lot of horses and none of which were so loving. they were more like 'tools' for the equestrian world. i miss her alot. she used to let me walk under her and stand on her and she would take naps in the field and i would run out there and lay in the sun with her. she was literally my best friend. i dont go to the barn anymore. its only like 100 yards from my back door but i just cant do it. i cant even look into my backyard anymore(its a field with our 2 cows) without crying. thank you all for your support and kind words. its greatly GREATLY appreciated. hugs to everyone. i dunno what id do without all my friends here. you are all considered family to me ♥♥♥

I'm so sorry you had to put your horse down. And some people just don't understand. They aren't just animals. They are family. You spend som much time with them and they become family. They live, breath, and bleed just as we do. And it hurts to have to be the one to make that decision. I had a great dane that was the best dog you could ever have and he got sick when he was a year and a half old. He was going through kidney failure and it lust broke me down having to see him that way. It was like it was one of children being so sick and then I had to make that decision to put him down. And then everyone was saying its just a dog. But evidently they never had an animal they loved so much have to go through this. Again I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope it gets better for you to cope with! Hugs!

I know you might not feel like it now but a fantastically good book to read is Chosen by a Horse by Susan Richards. It's a true story, positive but it will make you cry. I think it might help you not feel so alone with your feelings.
How are you coping now? Hugs Splitz |

I always wanted a horse. I cant imagine what it would be like to lose one. In fact I cant imagine what it'd be like to lose my doggie.
so ![]() You will make it through this ![]()
