In about 4 hours exactly I will have gotten a phone call to go the rest home where my dad was, he's dying. A little less than 3 hours of all of us sitting around him, watching him struggle to stay alive, he will take his last breath and leave us all.
  I will have spent the rest of the day in the mortuary, then awake all night at his wake.Its my cousin-brother's birthday, as well as my nephew's...but just not a good day like it was before.

I was close, in a sense...hard to explain. He isn't my bio father, technically my grandfather, but he was my Dad. My favorite memories are when I was 5, before he and my mom got divorced...he'd come home from work, smelling like the outdoors and Dad. He would have a hard candy in his work shirt pocket for me, and tickle my face with his whiskers. =) I would open his lunchbox to make sure he had eaten all his lunch that day (taking care of him). He always had a story or joke, part of a song for me. He would play the guitar for us at night, sometimes. He had been in Pearl Harbor and Guam, he was a great cook, he wrote songs and poetry, hunted, fished for our supper many times. He was the biggest man I knew, in my young innocence. My Dad could do anything. I miss him
