I'm so sorry to hear your sad news.

I'm sure you did the right thing. It was done out of love, and for all the right reasons.

There is nothing better than the love of a good doggie. So sad for your loss.

Sky, I had to put down a beloved dog once, and it is a terrible, terrible feeling -- even worse than losing beloved pets to natural causes. A friend who'd had to take her father off life support reminded me that we even must do this for human loved ones when it's time.

I cried for months.

Do try to remember that we can only know great loss and pain because we experienced great love and job. Both are part of the human experience, and we cannot have one without the other.

You did the right thing. My heart goes out to you.

_Sky....you needn't convince your heart of anything. your heart feels as it does because of the profound love you shared with your companion for over a decade and a half. that's a lot of time to spend with anyone, human, canine or other. you were very blessed to have such a spirited friend beside you for so many years.

our deepest sympathies for this loss. your heart will ache for a while.....however it will turn to a much smaller ache as time passes....but you will never forget this friend nor their service and assistance to you no matter how much time passes.

in time you will see more of the blessings and beautiful moments........for now comfort your pained heart and allow the tears to fall.

mourn the passing of a great canine. give yourself permission to "feel" as you need to. nuts to anyone who suggests you get over it or move on faster.........you grieve at your speed.

with compassion and sharing your sorrow,

((((Mandy)))) I need your support. : (

Thank you all for support... Just when I think I can get through the day...I come across something of his or think of something he'd do... and I'm a puddle of tears again. I need your support. : ( I wanted him forever. I feel like I didn't take good enough care of him...that maybe he could have lived longer, the vet said his breath and heart were strong...and he was eating still, some...and drinking...

sorry... I'm trying not to second guess... but I think it is written into the grieving role.

A long time (much older) Scout friend of mine and my family died over the weekend also... and his funeral is tomorrow morning...very near to my T's office. I'm actually thinking of going...but know that the tears I shed won't be for him.. but my pooch. IDK if that's right...oh well. Maybe it's too much to go.. IDK IDK what I'm doing I need your support. : (

I need your support. : ( If I'm not sobbing uncontrollably, I'm numb. Then I get a huge, inundating wave of grief over me and I'm melted into a puddle of tears once again, questioning my actions...and my loss... and where is my doggie? I need your support. : (

Sky, im sorry to hear of your loss.

i had to have a dog of 13 years put down 6 months ago, and it was really hard. he was only 6 years younger than me, so i had grown up with him. it hit me hard, and it hit my family hard too. allow yourself to grieve my friend. allow yourself to grieve as much as you would if it was a family member, or a friend who passed away. in a way, your dog was both, he was a friend AND family, so grieve as much as you need to.

you did the right thing, dont second guess that.

allow these feelings you have, and dont fight them.

i am here ANYTIME you need me, ok. you have my full heart Sky. i know you will get past this, and the memories of your friend will remain with you for life.

take it easy, and cry those tears. its healthy.

Sky, I'm so sorry for your loss. There are some people who don't understand the importance of service animals (and pets) -- please don't let anyone minimize the pain you're experiencing now.

The unconditional love and acceptance of an animal, whether a pet or a service animal, cannot be discounted. If only people were as loving and forgiving as dogs! Warm thoughts to you in this difficult time.

I've lost dear pets also. Childhood companions that by their nature can't join you into adulthood. SO I know somwhat how you feel. Giving the animal peace is important when the time comes. I've seen some animals who have gone into a state of degeneration that is no longer beneficial to owner or animal. It's sad to watch.
I hope you enjoy the good memories and hope you remember that it was an act of love to let the dog go.

Take care

Hi Sky,

Not to discount Scout, but who says you can't go to his funeral and cry for your beloved dog.

Our dogs and cats give us so much love. Knowing you -- you made the right decision.

It's ironic, but I was thinking of our beagle who we put to sleep last year, the evening I learned of your loss. He was the sweetest dog!!!

I'm sure your decision was a selfless decision. Please don't beat yourself up over doing the right thing.

((((((((((((((((((((((Sky))))))))))))))))))))))

Hugs,

EJ

Thank you all... friends and new to be friends here. I savor each word... and use them to process this grief. I knew I would grieve, but this is more than I expected. My companion, my comarade, is gone.

EJ perhaps God sent your beagle to greet Figaro, along with mandy's and ster's and simon's and wants2 and blackdOg's... and those that I may have missed... of course either he is just non existant and doesn't feel anything now...or he is no longer suffering and quite happy (whether he remembers his time with me or not..)

The grief, of course, is for me and my loss. I need your support. : ( Guess I got a bit selfish there, eh? I need your support. : (

Sky I'm so sorry for your loss. Of course he remembers you. How could he be happy otherwise? You'll all ways be in each other's hearts I think. I'm sorry you're in pain. It will get easier I promise.
