I know it so soon but I feel so lost without my dog. I'm not very religious and I know people mean well but there's little solace in "he's in a better place or you'll see him later"
There's just sadness. We had to put him down unexpectedly yesterday. He was such a character and so pervasive in it home. Every thought of him makes me feel worse and worse. And so many little parts of our day reminds us of him. Eating dinner, coming home is painful. Washing laundry even is hard.
I have had ****** life of sorts but for the last few years it had been okay. But I hadn't had to deal with death directly or at least not as an adult. I had so many pet deaths, some pretty gruesome but this one has rocked me. Moose was here day and night. We'd talk to him about everything,put his name in every song that heard. Instead of poker face it's ma ma moosey face. And many other examples.
I have my husband for support but he's grieving to and looking at him just reminds me of moose so much. When I met him online the first photo I kept was of him and Moose.
I am not looking forward to work or when my husband goes to work. He has a later schedule so I'm in the house alot.
I'll want to have a new pet eventually (though the time line is in dispute with my husband) but will I ever not compare it to moose. I just want a replacement even though he's irreplaceable. He did some many weird and funny things that he was always a delight to be around.
Right now all I do is cry for my baby boy. One day here one day not.
PS anyone know how to relieve eye soreness from crying?

I've lost pets before so I feel your pain. People say such trite stuff when someone dies, and some don't understand the bond you can feel with an animal. It can be deeper than with any human.

This is why I'm careful who I confide in about a loss, be it human or animal. Some people say the stupidest things. A simple "I'm sorry" will do but not stuff like "He's (or She's) in a better place." How do they know that? Are they THERE?

I lost my Daisy 2.5 years ago... she was my best friend. I still think of her every day. I adopted Molly six months later from the humane society. She is full of love and cuddles. No dog will ever replace Daisy, but I love Molly just as much. I feel your pain, but know that you provided Moose with a great life and he loves you very much.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thinking about getting another dog is good. I lost my little Georgia last May. I was devastated. Gil came into my life in June. He didn't replace Georgia, but he does fill the hole she left in my soul. All of my dogs have had their own, unique, lovable, personalities. Even though there will never be another dog just like Moose, there will be another dog with his or her own special talents.

I cried so much when Georgia died that I had blurry vision for a week or two after the crying stopped. The only thing that helped was a cool, wet washcloth.

Could you maybe volunteer at a shelter or foster a dog until your husband is ready for a new dog? Getting another dog isn't a betrayal of Moose's memory. It's an affirmation of his awesomeness.

I am so, so sorry for your painful loss. To me, there are times when I lost a pet that were worse than the times I lost a person.

I understand about your eyes being sore There are otc eye drops...everything from cheap Visine to more expensive drops that moisturize your eyes.

Thank you all. The support is great and I know every one means well. Today I had to go to work. It was hard I cried in the morning I cried when I came home. He was everywhere, all over, almost every part of our life in involved him. He was so funny and weird and we observed him and wondered about his actions. My husband reminisced about all of his favorite behaviors.
I loved it all. No new dog will replace him although I'd give anything to have another one of him.
We are functioning but the little things throw us into a tailspin.
My poor husband he has to go to work and at any point he could be required over time. And he works in the jail so for his safety he has to be tough and for his privacy too.
It's just so lonely and to top it off rainy and I have a migraine.

So sorry for the loss of your furkid. I have lost many pets in my life and it's painful each time.

I would be lost without my baby. He is 12 and I don't know what I am going to do when I lose him.

I think it's true that the most painful part of pet ownership is losing them so soon. But I would rather have them for even a short time than not at all.

I'm sorry i also have a dog named moose, he's such a doofus. Lol this got me when I read it. I am so so SO sorry for your loss. Idk what I will do when my moosie goes. Also do the mamama ma moosie face lmao . Ah crying. sorry

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing pets has been very hard for me too. Just know that your strong grief means that you loved your puppy dog the best you could and gave him the best possible life. No pet will ever replace moose but when you feel ready, a new pet may help with your grief. I am sure you puppy would want you to be happy, just like he did when he was alive. Again I am so sorry and my heart aches for your loss.

Chilled spoons pressed against my puffy eyes also works...Just be sure they are not TOO cold! I keep a couple in the frig, not the freezer. Let them sit a minute or two before using them.
