That's what I've got! AGAIN. Last year I had tendinitis and carpal tunnel at the same time... so at least this year it's less painful. Gotta look on the bright side, right?

How can I honestly rest my wrists if I've got a wheelchair and wheel around?!?

Anyways, I'm on a prescription anti-inflammatory, called Naproxen. Anyone else have experience with it?

I've taken 250mg about 2-3 hours ago, and I genuinely feel sick right now.

(I'm throwing myself a pity party).

Anyone sympathize? Or other tips for dealing with it? The doc said that if it becomes a regular occurence I might need surgery ( ) and I kinda want to prevent that from happening!!

yup, been there done that.

Naproxen? Take it with food! extremely important! Especially if its making you sick. Although taking with food WILL slow the absorbtion, you may lose a LITTLE of the effectiveness, many people find it too hard on the tummy. Some people say with a glass of milk but there is studies that say the milk stops it from being absorbed at all.

I'm so sorry to hear about the tendinitis. I have had it in the past. The one thing I found helpful was ice, lots and lots of ice whenever possible. I bought multiple ice packs so I could switch them as needed. (it was also easier than making ice over and over). I also wore wrist braces (bought at the store) to bed at night. It helped me from moving them and gave them a real brake. I could tell the difference between nights when I wore them and those that I didn't. When I tried anti-inflammatory for it I couldn't stay on them because they messed with my psych meds. However, they suggested that I use an antacid to see if it helped my stomach when it was made upset by them. There are also other types of anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen that you may be able to try (check w/ your doc). You may not have the same reaction to them. I second making sure you eat something when you take them.
Good Luck.

I know it sounds near impossible, but can you ease up on using your wrists a tad, like on the computer, maybe cut that time in half?

It might feel good if you use a moisturizer heavily on your wrists and massage your wrists and hands and forearms to get the circulation going and then relax the wrists for a time to let the inflammation calm down.

Did you know that the herb ginger is a terrific anti-inflammatory, yet it takes about a month to make an impact. So, if you start using some today, in tea say, or make your own drink, and add it to recipes ~ what ever you like, and get a start on it. Also, tumeric is a good pain reliever also. Those natural spices have analgesic properties, and although it takes a bit to get it going in your system, it's worth the effort to get off the other stuff soon.

Peace.

the red peppers make a decent drink in hot water with lemon, or in a capsule!

((((Christina)))) Aw, that sucks, I'm sorry. I have tendinitis or similar in my left hand from playing the violin, and more recently I've been having similar problems with my right wrist as well. Unfortunately I think that although the violin is how it started, it's been made worse by my computer use (I've been working full time in an office over the summer) and hair pulling, which has been quite bad ever since the last set of exams. But I've been in physio for a few months, and am also in a wrist support on my left hand, which I think is helping.

Are you able to see a physiotherapist for your tendinitis? In my experience they're much better with these sorts of problems than GPs, my doctor wasn't very helpful - all I got was "try not to play the violin for three weeks and see if that helps" (it didn't), and was given some ibuprofen gel that actually made my hand stiffer instead of stopping the pain! With physio I've been given some exercises to do each night, and although my hands aren't back to normal yet I have noticed improvement without having to take any medication. I hope you don't need to have surgery either.

I was just wondering why you dont use a moterized wheelchair? You know the one that you just move the joystick around to go different ways instead of you having to move the wheels. Just thought it might be an idea. I hope your pain gets better.

Maybe talk to your doctor about physical therapy. They can help reduce the inflamation and strengthen your wrists. I just had my last PT appointment Monday. I had severe inflamation and tendonitis in my right (dominant hand) wrist from a fall I took in January. I even had an MRI to see if I needed surgery. The ultrasound treatments helped and the exercises I did kept my range of motion. It's hard, my mom had to have surgery on both wrists for carpal or she would have lost the use of both hands. Hang in there and see if PT can work for you!
