I cant eat too much anymore. When I do feel hungry I can eat half a sandwhich or a couple bites of pizza and that will last me for two days. When I do eat i feel so sick and really dont have any appetite. My doctors appointment is not till Oct 1 im steadily loosing weight and im afraid by them i will be rail thin. Im not starving myself im not eating because I have some illness that my doctor and I are trying to figure out and this is a symptom. He never gave me any tips on how to increase my appetite or what would be good to eat. I try to eat really high fatty foods to increase my carb intake but thats all I know. Does anyone have any pointers or tips for helping this so I dont wind up in the hospital??? Thanks.

You might also try eating just because you know you have too and not because you want / desire too... eat for your health and the life you have with your husband. ((( hugs )))

Unfortunately eating just that little bit made me pretty sick...Thanks again i will keep trying...my husband bought me some ensure (it was my last resort). If you need to, go to the ER and explain how much weight you've lost and how you can't eat. Ask to see a gastroenterologist. That is the kind of Dr who checks out your digestive symptom. I don't think you should wail until Oct. 1. Another suggestion is to call your Dr's office back and explain how much weight you're losing and see if they will work you in immediately. Please let us know how you're doing.

Perhaps you might also want to go onto a vitamin supplement immediately. You need to replenish what you are not getting through nutritional foods. Avoid high fatty foods, your body will not be able to process this. Stick to healthy carbs such as high fibre, but low GI breads, pasta and perhaps potato. Don't forget to try and add a little protein too.

You said your Dr is trying to figure out what is wrong with you....need to do tests.....you need to tell him immdeiately what is going on with your weight loss.
I had the problem with stress causing me not to be able to eat....I would get so sick feeling I couldn't stand to even look at or smell food without feeling sick.....that is what stress does to me. I lost so much weight my medical Dr put me in the hospital & ran all the tests while I was in there & then I ended up on IV nutrition through a central line, just to keep me alive......all this happened due to the trauma that happened while my Mother was dying of cancer. Turned out that none of the tests showed up anything (think he did like $60,000 worth of tests).....nothing but stress & ended up PTSD. It is nothing to mess around with & I know your Dr will want to see you sooner when he knows that you aren't able to eat at all....I know from experience. Give him a call immediately....they always have room for emergency situations like yours. good luck, Debbie

Thank you so much for all of your support. I lost three more pounds in two days. Im now down to 114 pounds. I got to eat two crackers today and then felt like i had eaten a whole thanksgiving dinner. After I eat my stomach burns sooo bad and my stomach actually bloats up now even after two crackers. Once hit 105 pounds I will go to the ER Im afraid to go right now though cuz im not considered underweight due to my height. Once I hit the underweight number Ill go then hopefully they will definitely take me seriously. Im really trying hard to eat....My husband promised me as soon as my appitete comes back he is going to take me to a buffet where I can just eat like there is no tommrow Im soo looking forward to that one!!!

Sorry you're feeling so sick. How long has this been going on and do you actually throw up? I agree the doctors need to find out what's wrong. Gingeroot is great for nausea and soothing the stomach. Buy some fresh gingeroot - peel and slice about a 2 inch piece and let it boil in about 2 cups of water for 5 min. - you can add sugar if you like. Ginger has anti-inflamatory properties and helps with nausea. Best of luck and keep us posted. Hope you feel better.

Sounds like when I had my stomach ulcer. I also lost a lot of weight and couldn't eat. Have you been checked for a stomach ulcer?

Just wondering why you aren't calling your Dr & updating him with your situation? I am sure the last time you saw him he had no idea it would get this bad......no point in waiting another few weeks or incuring an ER bill when your Dr can fit you in with an emergency like this. If you call his office & leave a message to actually talk with your DR......since he knows what is going on with you....the front office peope you get when you call in are useless & never take anyone serious.
If it is an ulcer there is no point waiting longer as it could turn into a bleeding ulcer in your stomach & that is even worse......since your Dr already knows your case & is planning on tests, then he needs to get the testing started sooner or you could end up really sick (besides the weight loss) Don't know your height, but 100 is the underweight point for me at 5'2". The stress I went through from the trauma caused me to loose 22 lbs.....I was in the hospital when I hit 5 pounds below the underweight point.....but then I couldn't eat at all & was having a problem even keeping fluids down (it was only stress causing it). I ended up with blood work that showed malnutrition which was when thy put me on the IV nutrition.....once they did that & I was able to eat part of a grilled cheese sandwich, oatmeal cookies once in awhile..just the little bit of food kept me from hitting the malnutrition point again.....the ER won't do anything with you unless your bloodwork shows up as malnutrition either.....they don't do anything just because you hit a specific weight point other than contact your Dr which is what you can do without the ER expense. I really don't think your Dr thought it would be as bad as it has gotten, that is why you should talk directly to him & let him know what is going on. Oh, just want to let you know...as soon as you start feeling good enough to eat, going to a buffett isn't a good idea.....remember, right now, your stomach is shrinking without food....it takes a long time to get back to being able to eat normal again....it isn't a magic overnight thing just because you are feeling better....it takes awhile to work back up to being able to eat a normal amount again after this.....you know that too full feeling you get when you have stuffed yourself in the past....that is what you go through as you build back up to being to eat normally again. ![]() Debbie

Thanks yea I think I will call him. I have always been so scared that I will be looked at as a hypochondriac because soo many doctors before have...once has actually called me that to my face...another doctor actually commented on my sagging body from having a baby and thats why i have chest lumps (when that wasnt the case i had them for 2 years and my baby is 6 months old) My husband wanted to flip out on her. Ive had doctors just shake their heads and look at me and say we dont know go somewhere else. At the ER (this was a while back for the same health issues) i was shaking cuz I was cold in just a gown. The ER doc looked at my Ex Boyfriend and said is she always this dramatic and he said yea pretty much (thats why he is my EX lol). I dont know maybe i am dramatic thats why im always so terrified at going to the doctors unless it gets sooo bad they KNOW for a fact something is wrong...But now ive waited for too long without anyone helping me and all my symptoms are getting worse. Hopefully he wont make fun of me. Even my parents make fun of me and dont believe me. I have not said one word to them i went back to the doctor. My mom thinks im anorexic...i let her believe that..cuz if she found out Im blaming this on being "sick" she would flip out on me. She was the kinda mom that if i wasnt dying or bleeding to death i had to act like nothing was wrong. Im so good at hiding my symptoms from growing up with that..now no one believes me. Im supposed to get lab results back today from them to see if i have an autoimmunine disease and i will let them know then im loosing a severe amount of weight. Thanks again everyone!!

Your Dr is already doing tests to check out what the problem is that is causing your weight loss. The tests will determine if there is a problem or not......but like with me, there is alway a reason for the weight loss....in my case, it was caused by stress & I told my Dr that it was stress & told him what I was going through in the first place when I was in the hospital.... He told me that he just wanted to make sure & wanted to eliminate the possibility that is was anything else while he had me in the hospital, it was easy for them to do all the tests. When all the tests came back not showing anything, he believed me about the stress even though everyone was trying to shove me into an eating disorders treatment center again...lol.
I talked to an eating disorders center & told them what was going on.....they said, we don't treat anorexia problems like that even though it was actually anorixia because of the level of weight loss & everything associated with it medically, it just had nothing to do with body image problems & that is the only thing they treat (which I knew from the first time I was put into an eating disorder treatment center). I hope you don't mind my little chuckle about your chest lumps.....I was on a skiing vacation one winter & in the shower, noticed a lump...panicked, when I got home, I immediately called my Dr & had a mammogram done......they didn't get back with me about it & I ended up calling them....he said not to worry, I was just "lumpy".....many people are like that.......so not to worry.....you are not alone with your condition. Being that I don't weigh that much & am very small (32AA-32A), every little lump is very obvious...lol. Quote:
I even went to a knee surgeon when I injured my knee....he said he would go in arthroscopically & if he couldn't find anything he would just close it up & I would have to live with it that way ( ![]() Quote:

Sorry for rambling on so long.....started writing & just ended up with all these thoughts. Take care of yourself it's important & don't be pressured into allowing you to think it's being a hypochondriac ![]() Eskielover

Two things just hit me so I wanted to post them in case they might be able to help....
1.) Have you been tested or dx with stomach ulcers? as they can have this type of affect on the body 2.) Have you been tested or dx for any tubal infection - as they too will cause a person to be in pain, not want to eat and loose (or gain) weight no matter what they eat. I ask because I went through both of these mdecial problems over twenty years ago. |

This may be a dumb question - but have you ruled out possible pregnancy - I don't know how old you are - so pardon me if this question does not apply to you. You could have an endoscope to look for stomach ulcers.
I would also recommend eating some yogurt - this will introduce freindly bacteria into your intestines and reduce gas build up. I 'm very interested - so could you please PM me when you find out what it is? Thanks and feel better soon. ![]()

Thanks ...yea its definitely not a tubal infection but that was definitely a good idea. As for an ulcer i will ask my doctor cuz that could definitely be a possiblity....as for pregnancy...that is definitely not what i have lol good idea though...i had my baby 6 months ago and when on birth control right away and use protection...plus i am in alot pain sooo much of the time that intimacy is never really a possibilty. Thanks so much for helping me!

I am glad you explained why you are reluctant to go to your doctor but I am also glad that you have realized how important it is, at this stage, to see him. If he is professional, he will not ridicule you in any way. Please keep us posted on your situation. We care.

This is the first time you mentioned pain......is that what is adding to th nausea?....is that what they are looking for the cause of also? or is that a completely different issue from the eating & nausea problem?
Think if you are in pain almost constantly, that would be something they could find. I had bladder infections constantly after giving birth.....that was painful....or there could be all kinds of reasons depending on where th pain is. You may even have something going on from after your pregnancy that needs taken care of Oh, another FYI, my neighbor's 19 year old daughter is pregnant....she was on birthcontrol. My MIL got pregnant with her last child while she was on the pill 20 years after my husband was born...lol.....it isn't a guarantee at all...like you said...only guarantee is not having any relations. Sure hope they can figure out what is going on for your health...know we care. ![]() Debbie

Thanks guys...I have been in constant pain for two years...the naseua just happened..its new...but the pain has been constant ..No Im definitely not pregnant otherwise id have a two year old in my belly no thanks lol...but there is something i am kinda worried about...i have these lymph nodes on my neck that happened around the same time the pain and fatigue hit. I never really thought they were anything but ive had multiple antibodics that never worked they are still there...after two years..yes ive had this for two years...yes i have dealt with it for this long but im at my breaking point now. Anyway, with my constant fevers and enlarged lymph nodes and horrible fatigue and severe weight loss...its scary. Which to be honest i think doesnt help my lack of appetite any more. It seems the longer time goes on the more my symptoms get worse and more unbearable plus new ones are popping up like the weight loss and naseua and migrane headaches all the time. But my blood count is normal so according to the doctor if that is normal then i am normal. I read online that that is not neccessarily true and if you have enlarged lymph nodes that dont go away after time and medicine doesnt work then you really need to be checked out for things like hodgkins and all...some of that doesnt affect your blood count...and with cancer running so rampant in my family...again kinda scary. Plus those lumps on my chest, no im not just lumpy, they went from 1 to 6 and were growing (they stopped now from what i feel) Thanks for all the tips and suggestions i really appreciate it! I havent gained any weight but i am eating little bits here and there so its progress!!
